Title: 93 GS running lean? fixes?
Post by: flyingmachine on June 03, 2007, 03:43:27 PM
My bike has recently started having problems with throttle response, died on me a few times in the streets when too much throttle is applied.  When I examined the plugs, it seems to be overheating.  I plugged the missing CA emission required hoses, and changed the plugs and air filter.  Right now, it'll idle at just below 1K, but if I twist the throttle quickly the engine would bog and die out.  On the other hand, if a small amount of throttle is applied, the bike will rev up easily.  I've search the posts, and it sounds like my bike is running lean, if so what are some possible causes and fixes?  Could someone recommend a shop near Fullerton, CA (LA/OC county) in the US?  If I can't get her running smoothly myself, maybe it's time for some professional assistance.   Thanks!

what is the stock jets for a GS500?  Just curious, as far as I know the bike as been a CA bike, does the jets get worn through use?  It only has 14K on the meter.  thanks.

The bike was stored for about 2 month, but then the gas tank had a thorough cleaning and new gas was added.  It ran fine for another 2 month until about 3 wks ago it started dying on me.  I'll check for the vaccum leak with the carb cleaner later when I get home.  Thanks,

Got home today with about 1/2 an hour of sunlight left, I checked for vacuum leaks by spraying the carb and petcock area with some carb cleaner.  Couldn't find any thing leaks that affected the rpm.  Recheck the idle screw and set it at 3 turns out.  Bike still idlling at a little less than 1k.  I finally went for a quick ride up and down the block, I had to keep the throttle tiny till it climbed to 3K or so, then I can open it up quite a bit more, at 5K I can give it even more throttle.  If I apply too much throttle to a particular rpm range, the engine would bog.  Seems to be the same behavior with the petcock under prime or fuel on.  Does it still sound like the jets should be adjusted?  or is there a vac leak I"m not seeing?  What type of rpm spike should I be looking for when spraying the carb cleaner?  Thanks,
