He used to be a member here to, didn't he?  At least he's got his insurance money, but wow, the pd sucks if they are going to let this guy keep stealing stuff

Makes me sick, sounds like the guy had him basically and the SFPD messed it up. It wouldn't of been so bad if he only thought it was the guy, buy seeing your bike in bits with the guy stood two feet away would have been gutting, i would have called 911, just to get the cops there. Sometimes you wish you were a cop over there undercover and just off the backs of what people said on the forum try see the parts yourself and catch him.

From an IP addy?  :cookoo: I've been a network admin for a few years and taken several cisco networking classes... hows that trick work exacty?  :dunno_white:

About all you can get from an ip address, is a VERY general idea of what state a person is in... MAAAAYBE an idea as to what area they are in within that state, but as far as an actual physical home address? nope.

I read through most of the posts on this guy but I didn't see anything from the guy who got ripped off that he contacted eBay or the United States Post Office.

Postal investigators ARE interested in stolen property being sent through the mail - and so is UPS and Fed Ex.

Most people under estimate USPS but they have some teeth on this. I would also contact the local newspaper to keep pressure on the police department.

If someone ripped me off like that, and I knew who they were, I would utilize a little "Soprano" justice.

Big guy or not, I got friends that would come with me to meet the f**ker. Then we could have a nice little chat about respecting other peoples property....  :thumb:

I'm with frankieG.  Its just a bike.

Its hard to tell who's joking and who would actually do some of the things mentioned.  He'll get his.  Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but he'll get his.  He's tasted the easy money, he won't stop.

Antoine Taylor /atwan81@yahoo.com just got signed up for a whole bunch of p0rn spam and wiener pills, and hopefully the Sultan of Zimbabwe needs HIS help stashing all that money and will leave me alone. I love signing up dickheads like this for a metric butt-tonne of spam. What an a-hole.

Exactly what steps can be taken to prevent bike theft? I'm interested in learning these things...

Also, to the people that said "it's just a bike"... I agree to a certain extent. The guy talking about his shotgun needs to calm down but the thief definitely deserves to get his ass whooped. Sure, you get insurance money... but the bike has a lot more value then its cash equivalent. Especially with all the guys (and girls!) on this forum that spend SO much time, effort and money making their bikes exactly how they envision. If my bike was stolen I would be devastated.

wow...retarded cops...

Imagine how often police officers hear, "Officer, I know it was mine, who else would have a zip tie right there?"

It might sound ridiculous, but put some thought into it and from a true legal perspective there is not a whole lot that could be done.

It does suck, but I can say having been in the other side of the coin, I had a ~$2500 laptop stolen, and despite very aggressive searching through craigslist and eBay, as well as IP and all that hullabaloo... I never found a thing. I'll never stop wondering what became of it, and considering the very small group of people that would have had access to my room (dorm of 20 people!)... gar.

Wow, amazed to see this thread got bumped a few days ago. Never thought my story would leave BARF.

I'm obviously the guy who had my R6 stolen; I was just reminiscing about the bike this evening, telling my girlfriend (who I was not with at the time) the story about the thief, and so on. Amazed to see this thread lived on at all, heh.

Anyway, he's still out there near as I can tell, though I don't think he's still in the bike stealing business. :D

I engrave my initials on the frame and in a couple spots on the engine that are not easily seen.  I then take pictures of that.
