Title: Have a question for the men around here......
Post by: heatherg11 on June 07, 2007, 06:06:10 AM
How in the world do you ride for any given amount of time without your "personal area" (for lack of a more ladylike term) getting sore, squished, etc....I'm a female and even when I ride for any length of time I find myself having to move around alot on the seat in order to keep from putting too much pressure on one area.  (I'm trying to be very lady like and proper asking this)

First, your legs are spread from sitting over a saddle, so your dangly bits can just rest there. I'm on a crotch rocket so I lean forward a bit, but even that doesn't bother me in the slightest. My friends harley vibrates a whole bunch, but because you sit upright it doesn't really hit you in the pills enough to notice.

Same as with a bike, chair, anything else? Your weight rests on your butt, not your crotch, same as with women I would assume.

I never noticed it until I put clubman bars on my bike....it makes me lean over alot more, so I guess I wouldn't survive on a "real" crotch rocket.

Hmmmmmm

My wife enjoys the seating on her F4i, says it feels nice when she is really flogging the motor in the 10 to 14k range. :dunno_white:

As for me I wear boxer briefs when running around town, when I wear my leathers i wear under armor underwear. Underwear keeps my boys firmly contained so I don't sit back down and smash em.

I just wear tight fitting boxer briefs, try to keep my weight on my butt, and stay off the tank.Hard to stay off tank when you are short and have a limited reach.I didn't think women had that problem.Learn something new every day.

I constantly have to stand up and readjust it's not the most fun. Maybe I'll try the under armor. It my be becuase of the pants I ride in, the zipper bonches up. It's the worst part about riding for me!

yea my mechanic called my gs the milwakee vibrater last time he rode it.
i hit a speed bump once going to fast and it did a pretty good amount of damage down there
i actually had to pull over and lay down for a couple of minutes
proof that mirrored visors are for night

I'm on the short side of 5'6" so, reach is a problem for me especially with the clubman bars....it's not terribly uncomfortable, but I don't see how you guys do it.

@ 5'10" the way my bke is set up with vortex clip ons  I am constantly leaned over to keep from stiff arming when I ride, you just need to relax and find what works for you. The sport bars mean the end of comfortable upright riding. The most straight line time I spend on my bike is 30 or so miles, once I am into the twisties I move around so much on the bike it no longer matters. If it's a daily commuter or a long haul bike you might consider returning to stock bars.

I never have a problem since I learned to stay away from the tank.
The only time it may be of concern is when I am hard on the brakes or I am riding 2-up...one reason I do not ride 2-up.

I'm on the short side of 5'3 and have clipons... Still no issues. If I know I'm going to be riding all day, like in the mountains, I'll wear tight fitting boxer briefs. If I'm just going to work, I'll wear boxers. Once you're sat down, it's not an issue for me.. however, I do have to be careful not to sit on.. ermm.... myself

They only get crushed if I quick-stop with a passenger...  Other than they, they just kinda sit on the seat...

I had a "Seat Slapper" on the Meany though...  More upright sit... Pothole...  Launch... LAND!  Ouch!

When I ride my DR-Z, I practically ride "balls on the tank" so I just kinda shift everything to where it's flipped out front and plopped down on the tank away from any destructive areas. Also, keepin' yo junk tucked up with boxer briefs helps a lot in that department. Since you're a lady and have no proverbial "junk in the Volkswagen trunk" if you will, then I'd imagine you might try shifting your weight to your your hip/leg joint connection bones, ya know? You can lean forward without rolling onto the goods. Maybe try gripping the tank with your legs a little more?

I have never had a problem..and I'm really really short..even with my SM2's i found that position far more comfy than sitting upright...  :dunno_white:

About two times a year I'll sit on my balls.  Just some instant pain, a quick flash of light before my eyes, and everything is back to normal.

However I have never had a junk issue while riding.  And I keep my rig right up against the tank, especially when I am in the twisties.

Yeah, the uncomfortable thing is felt here... Usually via quick kicks, like potholes or stopping quickly... Or mounting the bike ... Just stand up on the pegs and wiggle my butt and/or tap my feet... fine.

I don't really wear a cup, but if I did it would be on the outside of my pants. For pure style points.

Correct riding posture - tighten your tummy muscles, which will rotate your hips, and support your upper body.  Gripping the tank with your knees (and grip tape; see SpecTech) helps, too.

Tightey-whiteys, in far more fashionalbe tiger, leopard and zebra colors - never had a problem...in either of my tankslappers, or just overall (underall?).

I've never noticed any issues on my GS. I'm 5'8". I do have "junk in the trunk", but I don't notice any problems unless I put in over 180-200 mile days. Stock bars may have something to do with that,(probably everything to do with that). But like scratch said, if I start to notice a problem, I tighten my stomach muscles up and increase my leg grip on the tank. It tends to relieve back and groin pressure

I don't do more than 400 to 500 miles a day. I used to do the long haul 800 to 1000 mile days on my wing and it's just boring I find the least populated twistiest most convoluted route that I can to get to where I am planning to go and then just have fun getting there. It's no longer about the destination but the trip there and back again.

I would mention that my seating position is much more agressive than the GS even with clip-ons. If an old fat guy like me can ride a 954 500 miles a day then you whipper snappers should have no problem.

i'd think it'd be like likening them to boobs. yes, they stick out, bump into things and the like, but if you live your whole life with them, you get used to it. i never wear underwear (worn them once in 5 years) so i just kinda flop the junk into the right spot where i won't squish anything and go. every once in a while i'll stand up and adjust but the only time it hurts is on a rough road.

i don't see how you guys can do tighty whiteys or boxer briefs. confinement and i really don't get along. even boxers bug the crap out of me. :dunno_white:

i most commonly wear jeans and have never had an issue. but, i do wear my pants low around the hips so they don't move around much. you just have to always remember to pull OUT and up when done using the restroom. i do need to buy new pants though. i lost weight so they all sit a wee bit farther down than i'd like... crack kills, my friends, crack kills.

I dunno but i think there is ever so slight misconception about what hurts men, the old ding dong flapping around takes alot to hurt, and the little sacks of fun you really have to squish em to make em hurt, mild banging of them i dont think is that bad is if they get squished which leaves you in the 5 minute aching agony. So when riding you cant really get them squished too easily so ive probably only hurt them once or twice in all the miles ive ridden and thats just a combination of unlucky positioning and giant potholes.

Personally I cant stand tight underwear either, but and their is alway's a butt isnt there,(some nicer than others :kiss3:), wonder if the original poster has a cute one.
neway..oh yeah underwear...damage protection etc, The under armour works great under my leathers at preventing chaffing, it has a nice silky smooth feeling pressed against my skin, kinda of like when my wife gently rubs....ok where are we oh yeah under armor, and it really does feel cooler when I have my leathers on if I wear under armor instead of not wearing it, and finally portions of my leathers are not lined and that doesnt feel good.

As for wearing boxer briefs with Jeans my grandma always asked me if I had clean underwear on, just in case I got into a wreck.
I sure do miss her these last 2 months warning me to be careful, listened to her for 22 years telling me to be careful sine i started riding, anyway yeah I can ride in jeans w/out underwear w/out problems smashing my gear but it just kinda became habit.

° No doubt about it, you get out of the saddle after a long ride and you not only walk like a Texan for awhile but it's also hard to pee. :icon_rolleyes:

° Forget  "tighty whiteys"....the key is to buy them a couple sizes over your waist size then they don't restrain like a jock strap.  And forget the whitey part, too....I give a  :thumb: to Hanes Low Cuts in the multicolor packs.  Awesome underwear.

° Tried going natural under my jeans, once.  Went out shopping and everyone I passed in the aisles looked at me as if somehow they all knew.      Sure, maybe that was just a guilty conscience...or maybe avoiding eye contact, a red face, and walking funny naturally draws attention to oneself. :dunno_white: :icon_rolleyes:    Sigh, just wasn't cut out to be a sex symbol ...sigh, I already knew that.
