Title: Holy crap
Post by: Alphamazing on June 07, 2007, 02:17:02 PM
Holy crap holy crap holy crap holy crap holy crap holy crap.

I just power wheelied a brand new Monster S4R with 2 miles on it. Oh yeah, and I wasn't wearing any gear at the time either. No jacket, no gloves, not even a freakin' helmet. I am such a f%$king squid.

It was f%$king awesome.

So for anyone who is curious, the 998cc Testastretta motor get's Alphas seal of approval for OMG MOTORZZ!!! Not even due to the stupid easy power wheelie, but just for the sheer amount of PULL it has. I mostly had it around 3k or so and it was ready to jump at a momen't notice. The dry clutch is a bit grabby, and is something you'd have to get used to, but the fuel injection is clean and smooth even at those low RPMs. There was no hesitation, no lurching, just clean delivery of power.

It was a short little test ride, but I honestly couldn't trust myself on one of those for around town duty. It is simply WAY too fast, especially for my throttle hand (which is used to being able to ring something out).

It's a really nice bike though, and it sounds delicious even with stock pipes.

The testastretta engine does, in fact, sound awesome and it's quite strong...but it's not all that.  I want it just for the dry clutch.  Hell I'd love anyhting with a dry clutch.  clutch-rattle = da bom.

oh but the bike, as a whole, is complete sex.

I'm pretty sure I'd be willing to castrate myself for an S4R :o

There is a Ducati dealership in St. Louis that is totally giving away Ducatis to anyone that castrates themselves.  It is a radio promo or something.  You should go up there.

I got my eye on an older 750. Not a super fast bike but I don't need a super fast bike at this point in my career, and when my wife saw the picture she started talking about all the naughty things it made her want to do...

Those bikes are nuts... LOL.

My next bike WILL be a Monster no question... ideally I'd like the S2R 800 but actually I'd be totally and completely happy with the 620 with Termi's, ECU and open airbox that I test drove.  That bike was a freaking BLAST to ride.

Hell , where'd ya hear this ? I've got 2 kids already ... what kind of message would it send to them if we had another ??? That they weren't good enough , we had to have another to see if we liked him/her better ???
So let me get this straight ... I can avoid having more kids AND get a new Duc ?

I'm in St Louis ... i'll start icing my crotch on my way there lol . I hope they'll bring it to my house though .... doubt i'll want to ride home immediately afterwards

Yeah, it seems you can get pretty good deals on the 99'-01' 750's, I was thinking about going that route myself... aren't you still in the running for that yellow '02 620 on Ebay?  That's a NICE bike...  whatever Monster I end up with, I think I'm definitely going with Termi pipes... they sound insane.  And I guess I'm the oddball, a lot of people like the dry clutch, but I actually like th APTC clutch myself...

Nah, gave up on the 02, I think it'll go higher than I want to pay, plus I'm not crazy about yellow... But I found a silver 97 750 which should go cheap enough that I can swing it. The silver looks sooo much better too, hot hot hot.

Yeah, I bet it goes for $4500 or so, at least.  I like the yellow, though I don't like the saddlebags on it LOL...  Actually I don't think there is a combination I don't like.  I'm a sucker for the S2R's in Black with the tangerine stripe though... and I STILL can't get that red 620 outta my head.  Good luck on that 750...

**EDIT  Ahhh, I actually saw that one, it looks pretty mint!  I like those Remus High Mount pipes, I bet they sound great...  Nice looking bike, good luck...

Man, I still can't get over that S4R... I had it at roughly 2000RPM, maybe 3000RPM, and just rolled on the throttle pretty hard and the front end just came up and up! It packs a wallop!!

I can't afford a $13,495 bike though, even with my employee discount. I'd want the S model anyways for the Ohlins suspension and upgraded Brembos, as well as some of the CF bling. The S model is $14,995. :(

Pricey, but SWEET.

Look at aprilias.  Of course you don't get any clutch rattle but they're a bit cheaper...The Tuono R can be had for 13 out the door.  That's $500 you can save for making yourself pretty.

Yeah, I figure at least $4500 on the 02.

This one just popped up too:

Should go cheap for obvious reasons :) I have a feeling getting it titled would be a nightmare, not to mention I have no way of knowing if it's stolen or has a lein on it...

No need... I'm already pretty ;)

I wouldn't really consider a water cooled Ducati as a bike to call my own, but an air-cooled Monster 900i.e. is under consideration (alongside the Speed Triple and Tuono). In time, in time.

Ha, saw that one too... that bill of sale thing is a killer, I don't think you could register that here in CT.  That yellow 620 is still at $3550, if it goes around $4000 that's a great deal.  If I had the cash right now I'd be ALL OVER that bike.  It looks awfully clean, and LOW mileage!  DAMMIT!  LOL

well there's a couple joints in Amarillo will get them...the beamer joint will get anything you want and they're good about making it worth it.  Outside fo that you're stuck hunting Dallas or Houston.

Our shop sells Aprilias, and we used to be the largest Aprilia dealer in the US until AF1 Racing (in New Braunfels, an hour south of me) came to be. They are an awesome shop.

I rode a 1098S today, but no faster than 20mph, and no longer than a quarter mile (just taking it around the shop to the front). It terrified me.

I was actually more terrified of the engine than crashing a customer's freshly repaired $20,000 motorcycle. I was scared to rev it. Honestly.

We have one, yes, as well as a Paul Smart version.

Thoughts? It's pretty, no doubt about it, but the clip ons are VERY low. Coupled with a long reach to the bars, and it is definitely a riding position that would take some acclimation. The Sport 1000's (naked version) clip ons are 70mm higher, I believe, which still makes it an aggressive ride, but not horribly painful. Compared to a supersport, the leg area isn't as cramped, which is good for us tall folk, but it still gives a pretty sporty seating position. The seat is narrow towards the front, which makes it easier to flat foot, and gets wider and more supportive as it goes back. The passenger seat is small and fairly stiff, and made for midgets.

The 1000DS engine is a pretty reliable piece, and has been used in the Supersport 1000, Multistrada 1000, Monster S2R1000, the older Monster 1000, as well as all of the Sport Classics. It makes 93HP at the crank and 70.2 lb-ft of torque. Here's the dyno (same engine)

Wheels look awesome, and are tubeless. They are also wide wheels, as the rear tire is a 180 spec rubber.

Oh yeah, and they sound sweet as hell with Termignonis on there.
