Title: So help me decide what to save up for.
Post by: bombadillo on June 08, 2007, 11:07:27 PM
I want 2 bikes (really 3) but i'm going to stick with two for now.  I want a second bike thats more of an animal than the gs500 and still gets 50mpg or so around town/highway.  I have looked at 3 bikes that I like a lot for style, function, and price.  These will all be used so take that consideration.  I won't spend over 5k on a bike no matter how few miles it has on it.  Drumm roll please.

The 2nd generation sv650s with the newer fuel injection

z1000 any year preferably with the twin dual exhaust.  (that just looked BA)

and a z750s was in the running too

I don't know which is going to affect my insurance so thats my next step is to check that out and find the insurance and gas quotes from different people.  Throw me some ideas that you guys would like.  The reason I am actually considering changing is that my wife said she wants to ride, and I have been asked to be a motorcycle instructor in a course that they would train me and all the fun stuff.  My wife would get the gs500e and I would step it up for a nicer newer bigger faster bike.  This thing is all kinds of plenty for me right now, but it just doesn't have the throw you back power that I'd like out of a bike.  Plus, fuel injection would be a major plus.

For the record my other bike not worth mentioning here is a vmax.  I've been drooling over those for a long time now and I will one day own one for under 2k

The Z1000 and Z750 won't net you 50mpg unless you ride like a wuss. No offense.

Have you looked at the Honda 919's.  They get mid 40's in mpg but quick and pretty if you like the naked look.  I really like the flat black one's.

When I upgrade in a few years it'll probably to the SV650 or honda 919 both look sick. :thumb:

the sv is a no -brainer.

the 919 will make you want to do bad things. or it does me.

do you guys get the honda hornet ?? cracking bikes,
the vmax has a tiny tank and will have you filling up every 70-80 miles, vboost is cool, but they are very thirsty, tyre selection is minimal, very twitchy in the wet, pick up is fantastic :thumb:

Ya, the 599 (hornet) is a beautiful bike, but overpriced imo.

Oh wait, that's not overpriced, that's Honda priced. (Love 'em)

Not for everyone, but the Buells claim to get in the 50mpg range.  I imagine you have to be pretty light on the throttle hand though.  I don't think insurance is too bad on them either.  And their one of the few manufacturers that allow test rides :icon_twisted:

The sv650 will probally get the best MPG but it isn't all that fast

I've noticed that with bigger bikes they get decent MPG on the highway (high 40s) but they really start to suck it down when you're getting on it in town.

I'd go for the z1000 since it's nice and fast, but look at the FZ1 too since they're just as fast and they seem to be resonably priced.

Bigger is better

yikes. you mean 'made in the usa', exploding rear pulley, engine-fun bags-up-at-80, oil spewing, lawsuit-heaven, buells ? Like the blast ?

I thought about getting a blast for about a day, then googled around and found they'll likely maim you in the nether reagons and nixxed the idea.

No, I'm talking about any of the XB's.  The Blast is definately a step down from the GS, though it probably gets pretty good mileage

I LOVE that new Z1000.  The whole look of that bike just screams nasty.

I'd go with the z750s. It's not something you'd see everywhere, is fast, comfortable and handles well.

ditto.  I've just been cruzing craigslist looking for good deals that randomly pop up like this:

The previous gen Z1000 is seriously BA though.
