Thanks for looking in and first off, I searched and read plenty. That aside, I still am not clear on a issue or two.
I understand alterations to the Kat steering stem is needed to fit on the GS steeringhead. Ok, but if I install the Kat front-end must I also go with the Kat dual discs? I wish to reuse the GS wheel/single disc and caliper.
This '95 Kat 750 front-end with axle/spacers available to me has the aluminum "top" triple-clamp / clip-ons bars ...all one piece that bolts to the real top triple-clamp. Is this usable with the GS controls? Or better yet,can I just place the GS top clamp/bars mount onto the Kats "real" trip/clamp?
I surely appreciate good info ...hope to become a resource to others someday. Dave
yes you must go with the gsx front wheel and dual discs
no you can't use the gs disc or caliper(why the hell would you want to??)
no you can't use the gs top clamp, (the gsx has larger forks so wont slide into the top clamp)
the best bet is to mount risers to the gsx top clamp and get some moto cross style bars, or get some clip ons from any bike with 41mm forks (non usd)
you arn't restricted to using gsx front end, any front end can be made to fit with minimal effort
i would look for a bandit front end as they already have bar clamps in place reeady for bars
The only way to use the GS caliper and rotor on Kat forks is to fabricate a bracket to relocate the caliper to fit the larger diameter GS rotor.
why would you go to a kat front end and NOT use the dual discs? That's the whole point. Otherwise you're just getting a moderate step up in suspension (my understanding), which you could get for much cheaper by doing a spring swap to sonics or racetechs, or even progressives.
I am going with the kat front end and i used the gs wheel.I just removed the stock dust cap on the left side of the wheel, removed the Gs disc, and mounted the Kat disc on the Gs wheel.dgyver maybe able to set you up with spacers for the stem, but yo gotta be really really nice to him an ask purdy please.remember he's a busy man.
Im fit mine 2morrow , been at work so much , got my file , a ruler , and D's walkthrough , and i have a pair of his spacers , which are Lovely , Looking forward to it , and i got my acewell , and my clipones ,and everything , all gd
I asked because I'm fixing a '01 with bend forks and the local boneyard has a '95 Kat 750 with a decent fork assy, but not wheel.
Plus I want low budget ... not adding a unneccesary wheel.
An ok stock gs front-end would be fine ... if priced right.
Anyone wishing to sell their stock front-end, I'd be just as happy.
Anyone? Thanks, Dave
