OK the bike had been sitting for a while before I bought it. I adjusted the idle screw up so it would run cause it kept stalling on the old gas. I put some new gas in it and carb cleaner that you run through the system and started it up and adjusted the srew back down till the idle was about 1500rpm. It ran great all day and then after about 10 min of riding this morning it stalls out. I couldnt get it to start and figured out the start switch was going out. Gave it a push start and got it running but it revs up really high and kind of erraticly at idle. Then when i attempt to release the clutch and launch it will just stall. I am thinking the needle valves and seats need to be replaced and the floater cleaned. What do yall think? I also need a new start switch but it is working now....it just doesnt work like 20% of the time or it is just hard to get it to work.
whats it do with the choke on? is there still old gas in it?
you might just need some new gas
but remember, before you go spending a bunch of money on new parts, check all the cheap n easy stuff first, it could save you alot of money and headache
weird thing is that i just started it back up and played with the choke and idel screw and got it running smooth again...didnt go very far though just did some first gear laps around my house, but it ran fine. So im pretty sure either the idle screw is vibrating loose or the floater or needle valves are getting stuck.
i put 2 gallons of 93 in it yesterday with the little bit of old gas that was in it and it ran fine yesterday so i dont think that is it...but i did notice that the fuel lines are discolored....are they supposed to be green?
The carb cleaner may have loosened up some detrius and clogged a jet temporarily. Water/condensation will do the same thing.
How fast were you going when it stalled out?
Your start switch may just need cleaning.
What color were the fuel lines before?
i dont know what color they were before cause i just bought the bike. I played with the choke and idle adjuster till i got it running right and drove it a couple miles without a problem. Is it possible that the idle screw had come loose?
I was doing about 25 when it stalled on me...but after that it stalled at idle if i tried to launch.
It seems to be running fine though but im going to go ahead and replace the needle valves and seats to be safe.
Have you inspected the ones you have?
Clean the carbs first, and inspect the jets and needles, before you go spending money you may not need to.
+1 to scratch. Also you mentioned that you adjusted the idle screw and it worked fine. There is a spring above the idle screw that keeps a little pressure on the screw to keep it from self adjusting. If your screw is really loose then you might check to see if that spring is still there or if it is broken.
i dont mind spending $40 for a carb kit. and if i got to take the tank off and the carbs just to inspect them i might as well put on new o rings, needle valves and seats.
Ill have to check on that spring when i take the fairings and crap off for paint.
the vaccumme diafram in the petcock could be bad,try to run it with the fuel valve set on pri.
its running fine now. If it starts acting up again ill test the peacock.
