Title: Hey you SoCal nuts (See first post for plans and POST UP, you lurkers!!)
Post by: Mk1inCali on June 17, 2007, 01:32:20 PM
Let's get something together...weekends are best for me.  I am in SD, but can travel.

EDIT:

When: August 19th
Where: San Diego peeps are meeting at the Exxon/Mobil at the intersection of La Jolla Village Drive and Villa La Jolla Drive in time to
be ready to roll at 8AM (gassed up and fed, please!).

Where2: Some of us meeting in SD, heading up to Newport Beach to meet the LA-area folks, then continuing north on PCH, possibly all the way up to Malibu for some twisties.

Why: Fun SoCal ride along the beach/curves.

Who: Anybody with a GS500, past and previous owners with other bikes also welcome.  No stunting, excessive speeding, drug abuse, etc will be encouraged or otherwise allowed.  We will ask you to go home if you are riding like an idiot and putting yourself or others in danger.

Please wear every bit of gear you have, please contact me if you need help getting geared up, I am part of www.buymoto.com and can get you whatever you need.

I've got a wedding on August 11th, big sis finally suckered a man into her life.

Just kidding, anyway, aside from that weekend and MotoGP, I'm open to get something going.  Maybe hit up Malibu, up to Santa Barbara or Pismo Beach for some clam chowda at the Splash CafĂ©?  Haven't been up there since on my way to SF.

I put on a ride mid-August last year that had I think 11 or so GS's with a mixture of other bikes splatted in... it was a good ride, we did ACH/AFH...

Might do it again this year, might even try to get like, door prizes or something...... who knows... I'm lazy and spend too much time at work.

So far we have MK1inCali, Foobar, The Good Guy, Flyingmachine, Dan02GS, Nepix, and me. We also have Egaeus if someone has a bike he can use. Now all we have to do is pick a date and a place to meet. It would be nice to cruise PCH to Malibu canyon road cruise up the mountain check out the view, head back down and hit Mulholland Drive for some twistie fun Finishing with some food. Thats my idead feel free to chime in. :thumb:

alright so mk1 is in sd, anyone else we could create a group to ride up and meet up. middle aug... a good date I know some people here have weddings and such so what do you guys think
Title: Re: Hey you SoCal nuts
Post by: Mk1inCali on July 05, 2007, 06:15:08 PM
I could get a group of 5-10 people to roll up with me from SD if we have the right date.  My parents would like to go ('07 BMW K1200GT), and they live in Bev. Hills and could meet us wherever.  This would not be a "haul-ass until you die" kind of ride, decently paced and beginner friendly.

Sundays work better for me and the folks I know, how about the 19th of August?  I'll leave SD at 8AM, that way I can be back by 5-6PM, which would be nice.  That'd put us at the 101/405 interchange at about 10AM and the twisties at 10:30-11.

Does that date/time work for everybody?

Nepix, where are you in SD?  You ever go to bike nights?  I work at Buymoto.com (We are in MiraMesa) and usually go to the MiraMesa Squid night, haven't ventured too far passed that yet, though.  I live in PB.

That works for me. Santa Monica is a good starting point if we were going to do a coastal / Santa Moncia mountain kind of ride. Though I'd prefer going south on PCH since its easier to pull over and take pics once in a while heading south  :)

Do you LA guys want to roll down to the OC, then we ride UP the PCH back to Santa Monica way, so us SD folks aren't triple-tracking?

Title: Re: Hey you SoCal nuts
Post by: Mk1inCali on July 09, 2007, 08:17:59 AM
Let's make it Sunday the 19th, meet up at Exxon/Mobil (I think that is what it is, not sure) across from Rock Bottom on La Jolla Village Drive.  That way we will be right on I5 to head north, there is plenty of pre-meet parking, and if we so choose, we can all head up Torrey Pines to get a group picture at the Gliderport to make the rest of GSTwins green with envy.

I'll edit the first post with the info.  Please post up or PM me if you have any issues with the time/date and would like to make a change and I'll see what I can do.

Hey Nepix, sorry about Tuesday, it got cancelled as I was out of the house and couldn't post up.

You busy Sunday afternoon?  Some moto-friends are doing a cookout at a house in Miramesa, couple of them have had gee esses, and are cool people in general.  I'll give you a call, see if you want to meet up and head over or something.

I guess it depends on what way the SD crowd is coming up. I was suggesting Dana Point so we could all meet up sooner and 'split the difference' with the miles, as it were.

I'd say 1.5hrs, if we pull off the 5 onto PCH at Dana Point.

It takes me 2 hrs or so to fly up to my parent's place in Beverly Hills, and I think I hit Lake Forest area around an hour into that, from SD.

Best guess, for now.

If this wasn't a ride on a relatively straight road, I might join in, but considering the amount of traffic, tourists, pedestrians, and lack of aggresive roads, I'll be out on this one.

Be sure to keep an eye out for the 2nd Annual GSTwins ACH ride.

I might head up north to Malibu after we hit up the PCH in the beach areas for a while...spend the night at my parent's place and come back via Idyllwild Sunday, and rail Palomar before heading home to sleep for hours and hours.

I'm hoping to have the GSXR shock installed by this ride...

Hopefully by this time next month it'll be cooled down a bit and not baking hot.  I just rode east yesterday for a while and my passenger and I were dying to get under some shade.

I think SD is about as small of a city as I would want to live in anymore.  Traffic isn't to LA levels (ie, there are times when there is traffic, and 8/10s of the day the freeways are flowing just fine), and there is enough of a downtown to keep me appeased on "culture" stuff...

Is everyone still up for meeting this weekend? I have to head down to Palos Verdes on Saturday and will be heading back up to Ventura via PCH on Sunday morning  so if everyone is going to hook up then that would be nice to meet up. The Zaca fire up here is pretty bad it will be nice to get away from the smoke and the ash. If everyone cant make it then we should plan again for some other time. I was thinking it would be cool for everyone to meet up in Idllywild or some destination spot sometime in the spring or something. Ok just let me know what is up

Hey guys, I'm out of this one too.  Over the past week I tried to get a chain/sprocket set ordered through work and the particular parts never showed up (I've got 3-4 kinked links in the chain, and am at the end of the adjustment in the swingarm and it's still loose) as they should have in time for me to bolt 'em up.  Bastards at Tucker Rocky...pfft.

Then, I go to ride up Torrey Pines this morning and make sure everything is cool for the ride, aside from the chain, and the battery is dead, totally dead, finally after 4.5 yrs of good service/abuse.  Go Walmart sealed batteries, anyway, a lot more than the stock POS...Had to work for a while today so I couldn't get over to grab a new batt in time.

I'd ride the Ducati if it had current registration on it (expired last month), so that's out too...

Foobar, can you take lead for the SD folks, if there is more than one of you?

Great day for a but the cars made it a bit slow, but I still had fun and hope the other guys did. :thumb: We should do it again some time, minus the newport beach stuff.

Yeah it was a good ride. We should definitely do it again. Maybe when it cools off we could head up the 33 toward Ojai.

This was my trip log for the day (190 miles):

Glad you guys had a good ride.  I'm getting the Ducati back into road-ready shape here, and will have a reliable ride there, and hopefully will have the GS ready for the Buttonwillow track day that I've got on the 26th (Sheesh, that crept up on me...I'm not really feeling ready for it).

We'll try it again sometime in September, maybe?

Hey just got back to work, wanted to say thanks for the ride. I now know that I need a new seat, something alittle more comfortable for the next trip. Sorry to hear about the troubles for the SD folks, maybe next time. OK you  all take care and be safe out there. :thumb:

my seat also sucked but im used to it. I ride malibu pretty often and get used to having a sore behind. purchase some gel pads and that should soften up your seat. glad to had fun, and great to meet you both :thumb:.
