Title: Shipping?
Post by: davidcl on June 19, 2007, 05:24:45 PM
So I'm having my bike shiped to my next base. Besides taking lots of pictures, any "heads up" that I should know about. I'm kinda nervous about how I'll find it when they deliver it.

Call your insurance agent  :thumb: Be sure that you have proper coverage regardless of what the shipping Co. has.

Also, How are you shipping? Are you crating it? are they straping it to a palate as is? You may want to cover painted areas w/ a thick plastic wrap. Also be sure to place your name and address directly onto the bike just in case.

I duno,

I ship bikes from our shop to all over the World and havent had much trouble yet. The main thing is damage. try your best to ensure damageable parts are removed and packed separate if needed...

Ummm.. I would post more ideas but I am tired  :thumb:

Wrap it in blankets and shrink wrap and have R&L Carriers come and get it.  They'll pick it up at your door and drop it off at your...other door...and they'll usually do it for a lot less than what most freight agencies charge for terminal to erminal service.  if anything's badly damaged they'll take care of you.  I've shipped a lot of bikes with them and they've always treated me good.

When I shipped my race SV, I got a factory crate from a dealer for free. They had a pile of them. They come covered in cardboard but I covered it with OSB, it was heading to Hawaii.

Thanks for the ideas, something to think about. Fortunately it's all paid for and insured by the USAF.
