I got some 3mm stainless washers from my local hardware store.  Ace is the place!

+1 for Ace.  Neither Home Depot or Lowe's had the right size.

They should...  I got mine at Lowe's.  They're just #4 washers, nothing particularly special about them.

the number 4's dont fit for me!?
the needle doesnt go far enought down so that the the thing above it can lock in place
i just installed a k&n lunchbox and put it jets, im not sure if i even put the main jet in the right location
there a small on and a long one that looks like you can use a 8mm wrech on
i got the pilot right atlesat

but its bogs and jerks from 6 to 11 hundred rpm
im currently running no washers
is that the reason y its doing that?

For the later carbs, you really need M3 / 3 mm washers, NOT #4 washers. The design changed in 2001, and there isn't room in the new slides for some #4 washers.

The "main" jet goes in the end of the hexagonal brass tube.  A lot of people look at the tube and the jet and assume that they're one piece, but they're not. The mid-main goes directly into the carb body.

Hope this helps.

I don't think it's a new carb vs old carb thing for the washer fit.  I tried #4 washers and they didn't fit for me.  Then I went and got 3mm washers and they fit just fine.  I think it just has to do with the O.D. of the washer's varying by source, so for some they work but for others they are to large

Instead of useing washers it's alot easier on the +01's to just buy the jets from your local motorcycle shop.

The washers are for shimming the needle, not the jets

If you replace the jets you don't need to shim the needles.

Sorry, I have to disagree... the shims give you a finer degree of control. You replace the jets THEN fine-tune with the needle shims. Some people may never need to, maybe it was perfect first try.
