:x Ok.... prepare yourself. Grab a beer, a bag o chips and sit down and read my novel. Im pissed.
So lemme start out with what i did today. I cleaned up the old motor, getting it ready for sale.. and then i proceeded to change the oil (first oil change of new motor!) and clean up, all in time for work after a 5 sec shower. Everything is peachy.
I get to work, and im happy to see that the Publisher rode his bike to work as well, a brand new Suzuki Volusia. Beautiful bike. Also, a co worker had parked his BRAND NEW honda shadow outside. What a nice site. So i proceed to park my bike next to the shadow, giving room for John to be able to move his Volusia. And the company newspaper car (white cavalier) was parked in front of my bike. I asked everyone in site if that guy needed to move that car anytime soon and everyone gave me the same answer, "not til tomorrow." With that in mind, i came upstairs (theres a perfect view of my bike from the fire escape where i work on the second floor.)
I started to work, and then i got a tap on the shoulder from the shadow owner. "Your bike fell man!"
"WHAT!!? :o "
I scrambled to the window to scope it out.. but not before i heard him say, "Your mirror is in between my two cylinders!"
WHAT!?? %^%#@&^%$#&*!!"
I flew down the stairs and out the door. My bike's left mirror was lodged in between his twin and my bike was laying on its right side. The right mirror had shattered and glass was everywhere. Oil leaked like blood from my bikes belly. Adrenaline kicked in and i lifted that thing up with one hand while moving the shadow out of the way. NOT FUN.
DAMAGE REPORT:
SHADOW: Minor scuff, not a scratch, on the black gas tank. It can be buffed right out. Got lucky!
Also, some glass fragments and scuffs on the chrome engine case.
GS500E: Right mirror MIA. Vance and Hines pipe slightly dented and scratched up. I noticed some scratches on fender and possibly gas tank that werent there from me. NOW, keep in mind my bikes a beater. But its a good looking beater. I planned on new paint anyways, but still...
I want you to keep in mind i have a very rare Teal, from 91'. Good thing too. I happened to glance at the cavalier which i thought was in the same spot as before. Heh... TEAL PAINT... on the bumper. Freshly scraped.... :x
The driver comes out and me and rick (shadow) look at each other and start asking the guy questions. He denies it until i show him the paint(what a lying peice of shaZam!...good thing he works here), then he just gets in the car and doesnt say anything. My bike runs fine. I know tipping over doesnt do much damage.. just leaked a bit of oil and im not running with an air filter right now so im kinda perturbed about that. (i know, i shouldnt be).
At any rate, the publisher, john, came out and we told him what happened.. and hes taking care of it. its 100% obvious that the guy hit me. We are in a parking lot BEHIND a building that not many poeple know about...and NO one ever drives back there.. let alone walks there. its a very narrow street leading up to it as well. I just wanna say that the kickstand was down on LEVEL ground... bike leaning to the left, with wheel cocked to the right. NO WAY it can just fall over to the right.. EVEN with wind, of which there was none.
Im furious, but at the same time, relieved. Im not sure whats gonna happen but if they tried to take all the scratches into account on my 91' i would either get all new paint or they would total it. I dont like the latter very much. But anyhow, thanks for listening to my rant. I just hope i dont see that leprechaun-assclown-lying-douchebag-sack-of-shaZam!-from-hell- every again. But i will. So id like you to all pray for him. Pray for him and his lying ways... :bs:
Sorry to hear about this. Just make sure the guy's (or your work's) insurance pays for everything that was damaged in any way. Exhaust, mirrors, bars, barends, paint, clutch/brake levers, etc. It was his fault, not yours. Make him pay for everything that is not as it was when you parked it there that morning.
Well, just talked to my boss and looks like they arent going to insurance.. just replacing my mirror. It sucks becuase, well, its my boss. He controls the insurance etc... for that dumbass. :x
He can't legally do that. Tell him you don't care how but you need all of your expenses covered. If not you need to get a lawyer. If they fire you over it you can sue the living shaZam! out of them for that and be set for life. Don't let them sell you short.
:x do like snowman said. if they fire you sue the shaZam! outta them. then you can get a new gs  well.... newer anyhoo and get yours fixed! keep us posted. (i think i hear another ten page novel/thread coming on)what they are doin is utter :bs: :bs: :bs: give'em hell :thumb:
Thanks guys! :thumb: i wont be working here forever anyways.. my part-time business is rockin' and it should be a year at most before its solid. I will talk to my boss about it. Its not like hes tellin me no.. but the deductible would be more than the damage done.. so ill have them get me bar end mirrors and since the pipe was already rashed in other places, i really dont care. I dunno.. im just glad the damage wasnt worse!! :thumb:
That just pisses me off! It's like when I left my bike closer to the end of the driveway at home a few weeks ago. There was no wind, nothing. Nice night. My room mate went to get the paper in the am and she tells me my bike is tipped over.
Well, like you did, I bombed out there! I was soo mad. I have had it tip over once in a serious wind storm.. (it fell onto the pile of mulch-haha) That night there was absolutely no wind at all. So I figure it had to be some kids in the neighborhood. The fact that the right barend mirror was not broken and nothing was really damaged/scrapped- I figure they were sitting on it and it started to fall over and they tried to catch it. Broke the fall enough so no real damage was done.
Pissed me off BIG TIME! Needless to say I do not park it back out there anymore.
Building a shed so this will NOT be a problem in the future! GRRRR! :x :x
Ok perspective time...
duck knocks over your GS with a company car. Two bikes get slightly dinged. Your admitted beater looses a mirror and gets some minor scratches.
It would cost much more in raised premiums and the deductable wouldn't even cover your damages. I can understand why Boss doesn't want to file. If he were a good sport he would pay for your mirror out of Co. funds and write up or think about firing duck (not just for hitting a POV, but also blatantly lying about it).
If nothing does get done about it. Think about finding out where duck's own car is and secretly bust HIS right mirror off and key the right side. If he confronts you, tell him the exact same thing he told you. Eye for an eye and all that.
But make sure duck doesn't have postal tendencies! :o
Sorry to hear that happened to you. I would tell your boss that you don't feel completely satisfied with what he offered and ask if there something more he can do. If he can't do anymore and you still feel unjustified, do what everybody else is suggesting. Legal action may be your only recourse then.
But it doesn't go against his insurance. It's the companies insurance. If the company doesn't want to raise it's premiums it can cover the costs out of pocket, which it would have to do for the deductable anyway.
Legaly it will be harder to persue because there is no police report but just put it to your boss like this. If the guy had backed into his car what would he do?

He was a duck anyway.
Didn't you say they were scratched before? So discuss away- but I think you got the biggest present with the duck being fired. Its hard to get a job now a days.

Lying and stealing are my two pet peeves of things NOT to do to me. :nono:
And if my boss is anything like me (which he is, cause he rides a suzuki!), he feels the same. My bike is scratched... in general. But, that doesnt make it right for someone to start scratching it up right? And my pipe certainly didnt have the rash it has now.. how bout a 300$ V&H? Maybe im being too nice about it.
Also i wanted barend mirrors.. so hopefully they will give me money.
Your boss sounds like a stand up guy...I'd be much more angry at the lying than at the actual accident...Yea ask him for parts or not ... I'm sure he'll agree if you ask for it, or comp you other ways if you dont...maybe you should ask for a week off to mourn your scratches.
Cool.
Srinath.
:? i dont know what you are paid there, but how 'bout this, new mirrors and a weeks paid vacation! (just an idea) :)
This is a little off topic, but I wasn't aware that the 91 teal gs500's were rare, that is the same bike I have. I was thinking about painting it, would it be worth it to keep the original paint?
Katie
Ok fine granted they made the teal just 1 year. But it was the majority color of 91. The second was blue...I and snapper have one of these and its that sorta blue that makes you want to drop everything and ride to the other coast looking for the perfect shade of pacific ocean that happens only at sunset in the southern tip of Baja (AKA pacific blue - Nissan maybe or Baja Blue - Toyota)
The third color of that year was red...and positively rare. I have just seen 1 of these... or maybe it was a repaint/re decal or mistaken decal off a 90.
So they made it one year but so was the white of 89, the purple, the orange the red of 99 and the yellow and the blue of 91...Pretty much they all unique except maybe a black of any year...Black is black is black.
So I guess its unique but not more so than any other GS color except black...However the GS is the only bike or any vehicle for that matter that can pull off that color...and even it barely does. The purple is I guess a shade worse looking but teal isn't far behind.
However if you want to paint it anyway...I'll trade you a silver and blue and yellow set with a small fixable dent in the tank for the teal set. I'd rather have teal than have to paint...Well in my defense it used to be teal...before the previous owner painted it...
Cool.
Srinath.
Do you have pictures of the blue silver yellow set? mine has a windscreen and belly pan that match as well, only damage on mine is a few paint dings and a scrape on the windscreen ( last owner's wife knocked it over and then tried to pick it up and basically dragged it on the ground)
