Title: Difficulty while installing the new chain.
Post by: Jenya on June 21, 2007, 08:22:00 PM
Hello,

I cut my old endless shain off with a Dremmel and was trying to install a new Part Unlimited X-Ring chain that came with a master link.
The problem that I ran into is that the sideplate does not freely slide onto the rivets of the master link. I assume it would have to slide further in to expose the grooves in the rivets, so that I could install the clip. However, the side plate slides onto the rivets just a little and then gets stuck.

Am I supposed to compress it further on? If so, what tool should I use for that?

typical ringed chain issue.  Break out a pair of channel locks or a small c-clamp and cinch it all down more.

had ya got a good roller you wouldn't have that problem :p

Ok, I pressed it in. Just wanted to ask before applying significant force to it.

I am sure roller chains has lots of merits, but riding in rainy PNW, I'd rater opt for a chain that requires less of a maintance.
