So I'm riding along a 5 lane road, (2 each way with a turn lane). I'm in the left lane, there's a van in front of me. We're going about 45, that's the speed limit and all of a sudden the van just bows up and stops. Tire squelling and everything. I'm thinking WTF so I lay on BOTH brakes at the same time, my a$$ end gets a little wobble but I get stopped before I hit the van. A damn explorer decides to do a U turn from the right lane-going the same way I am. They swerve infront of the van and he just looks at us like "what did I do"..I could have shot him. I took this lane to avoid the interstate...but I'm thinking I'm gonna stick to the interstate from now on-all of my close calls have been on roads except the interstate. D@mn cagers!!!
Sounds like he could use a good shooting :2guns: like many others
Glad that you are alright :thumb:
I'm sorry to say this and I hope it doesn't offend anyone, but he was probably an illegal...we have ALOT around here and I have had 5 or 6 friends that have been hit by illegals with no license or insurance.
interstate highways aren't all that bad because no one's pulling u-turns across 4 lanes, you just have to look out for some one changing lanes into you and debris. thats about it. but the speed can kill, I don't know how you feel about that. I used to avoid them too but I was always getting cut off and stopped short on the city streets. If you don't like going 90 on the interstate just get in the right lane and follow the car in front of you at 55-65 you'll get there. :thumb:
d
Interstate is alot safer than surface roads. Glad you were not hurt.
Stay safe out there :thumb:
BTW did you ever decide on a color or your bike? Yami red / white.
I used to hate the interstate more than i do now, but i'm getting more used to it. The highest speed on the interstate is 70 so the most I will go is 80. I mainly ride roads besides the interstate to make my trip longer. If I get on the interstate my 30 min trip really is 30 mins. If I get on a side road it's 45-55 mins. maybe more. That's the main reason I don't take the interstate.
No, I didn't decide on a color..I guess I'm gonna wait til winter-maybe I will have decided on a color by then.
I love the interstate. Almost never have a problem with other vehicles. And if you do it's just someone in a Bimmer or Vette that wants to race  Riding in town just scares the hell outta me :o :o I avoid it at all costs. I've been cutoff bad enough i hit the ground twice in town and actually was hit by a truck recently
that sucks..glad you're ok. I'm gonna stick to interstate's for a while...but I LOVE the road's around here. I live in the mountains...lots of twisties. the only problem with road's around here is the gravel in the corners. It seems like EVERY turn has gravel in it I have to dodge. But It's still fun.
I thought I would stay away from the cagers on saturday and took the back roads home and almost smoked a huge racoon that would have knocked me down for sure. Then I got onto the highway :D
I ALWAYS prefer the interstate over city streets... sure your going faster, but theres no morons waiting on the side to cut across or flip a u-turn, or backing into a parking spot, etc etc... Interstates you just have to watch out for shredded tires and lane changers.
