Title: no power
Post by: mach1 on July 04, 2007, 09:36:30 PM
So now my front blinkers, high beam, Rear blinkers,Running lights and brake lights dont work. The Oil light, N light, guage lights and low beam work fine. Do I need a new relay or is something else wrong?

I'm lost on this, but I'll give it one last best guess.Bad ground wire. Also, check and clean your battery terminals and wire ends.I use 2 heaping table spoons of baking soda in 1 cup/8 ounces of water.Brush on thick with an old tooth brush and rinse with garden hose before it dries.I have nothing left to offer.Sorry.

No 1 man is in charge of the military.     The DOD and all the branches have independant major commands in charge of the majority of contractors.  Contractors don't suck.  Not the one's I'm familiar with ( Blackwater INTL )  They allow former Combat Specialty Soldiers the opportunity to continue doing their job for obscene amounts of money while removing direct liability from the government.   They can (or at least used to be able to ) get away with any method of information extraction they felt like.  The only thing that sucks ass is that our own government won't let our military do these jobs because they are afraid of the global opinion looking down on us.  Odd, last i check we were the one fully intact 'superpower' .   Currently the US has in the order of 50,000+ armed and ready nuclear warheads utilizing the newest guidance and stability technology.  The next closest would be a composite of the former Soviet with a high estimate of 8,000 antiquated nuclear devices.   We need to stop giving a f%$k about what other country's think of us and take care of shaZam!

Sorry to threadjack mach1.

Check your grounds, that's what it sounds like to me

To many possibilities to make an accurate diagnosis. A duff indicator relay wont affect the lighting circuits. The problem appears to be related to the handlebar switch gear, start checking the switches individually and ensure all the connections inside the headlamp bowl and around the top of the headstock are sound. Look for bad earths and pinched/trapped wires that may have broken inside and be causing an open-circuit.
There is a schematic in the manual, the electrical system on the GS is not rocket science.

this might sound stupid but....did you check your fuse?
Title: Re: no power
Post by: ohgood on July 05, 2007, 02:25:00 PM
To quote an elegant man:

"Got gas in it ?"

OK, this doesn't pertain to fuel/air mixture. Still check the fuse(s) ?

I give up...... a mechanic would have a very basic knowledge off and an understanding of the electrical systems of his bike!!!!.....buy a manual FFS!

Thats cool, just checking.

Just one tip, don't let the smoke escape from the wires, cause nothing works when that happens.  :thumb:

I like to keep a jar of smoke handy so that you can just top it up & don't have to wait so long for the smoke to build back up. The trouble these days is finding some good quality smoke, as most shops sell that Chinese smoke & it aint worth a pinch of crap.

To be helpful: There is no separate fuse for the lights/signals, the GS has one fuse. If your bike runs, your fuse ain't blown.

To be not helpful: Holy crap, I hate you.

coca cola and baking soda works good for cleaning cables, or better yet, remove them and scrub them like you scrub your pecker after or during mas&(*&(*&n
jk, anyhoo back on topic. when bike runs, shifts and pulls just fine right?, just the aforementioned no worky on the lights?, next question. start with the KGB

K nown
G ood
B attery.

down the road if probs still persist, check the charging output and make sure its up to spec

cause with non functional lights and such. youre just looking for a cop who is bored and has an itchy ticket writing hand :thumb:
anyhoo, pm me with exactly the probs, symptoms, year of bike, miles, etc etc etc. and ill see if i can come up with something more helpful
