Title: "Must Have" Road Songs
Post by: RedShift on July 08, 2007, 03:40:32 PM
Modern technology is marvelous.

I've been rebuilding my personal audio device in preparation to carry along my favourite tunes for some upcoming summer trips, and the thought came that I should download music that I've always wanted to buy but missed the opportunity.  My problem is I can't remember half the great songs I've heard over the past 40 years.

I'm sure I'm not alone.

So I challenge you folks to nominate your favourite road songs.

Some rules for modern times.  .
Examples:
---------- Artist ----------- Track ------------ Album (---------- Service)
So what should I consider getting to listen on the open road?  Name the Road Song "Must Haves" for any GS500 rider's iPod (or similar MP3 device).

PS. I'd like this as an extension of the same idea SuZuki10 floated about 18 months ago in her  Must have songs... (http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=23664.0) thread.  Didn't want to add to it - seemed nice as it is.

THE BICYCLE SONG!!!!!!!          I WANT TO RIDE MY BICYCLE, BICYCLE!!!!      :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

It's called 'bicycle race' :cookoo:

Well, I'm running down the road
tryin' to loosen my load
I've got seven women on
my mind,
Four that wanna own me,
Two that wanna stone me,
One says she's a friend of mine
Take It easy, take it easy
Don't let the sound of your own wheels
drive you crazy
Lighten up while you still can
don't even try to understand
Just find a place to make your stand
and take it easy
Well, I'm a standing on a corner
in Winslow, Arizona
and such a fine sight to see
It's a girl, my Lord, in a flatbed
Ford slowin' down to take a look at me
Come on, baby, don't say maybe
I gotta know if your sweet love is
gonna save me
We may lose and we may win though
we will never be here again
so open up, I'm climbin' in,
so take it easy
Well I'm running down the road trying to loosen
my load, got a world of trouble on my mind
lookin' for a lover who won't blow my
cover, she's so hard to find
Take it easy, take it easy
don't let the sound of your own
wheels make you crazy
come on baby, don't say maybe
I gotta know if your sweet love is
gonna save me, oh oh oh
Oh we got it easy
We oughta take it easy

I'm a rolling thunder, pouring rain
I'm comin' on like a hurricane
My lightning's flashing across the sky
You're only young but you're gonna die
I won't take no prisoners, won't spare no lives
Nobody's putting up a fight
I got my bell, I'm gonna take you to hell
I'm gonna get you, Satan get you
CHORUS:
Hell's Bells
Yeah, Hell's Bells
You got me ringing Hell's Bells
My temperature's high, Hell's Bells
I'll give you black sensations up and down your spine
If you're into evil you're a friend of mine
See my white light flashing as I split the night
'cause if Good's on the left,
then I'm stickin' to the right
I won't take no prisoners, won't spare no lives
Nobody's puttin' up a fight
I got my bell, I'm gonna take you to hell
I'm gonna get you, Satan get you
Hell's Bells
Yeah, Hell's Bells
You got me ringing Hell's Bells
My temperature's high, Hell's Bells
CHORUS
yeow
Hell's Bells, Satan's comin' to you
Hell's Bells, he's ringing them now
Hell's Bells, the temperature's high
Hell's Bells, across the sky
Hell's Bells, they're takin' you down
Hell's Bells, they're draggin' you under
Hell's Bells, gonna split the night
Hell's Bells, there's no way to fight, yeah
Ow, ow, ow, ow
Hell's Bells

f%$k 'em
Can't stop me think I'm messing around
You think I'm messin around
Well are you messin around with me
Truth is I've seen the ups and the downs
And through the losses and the founds
Well I'm right where I wanna be

Stop thinking everybody's shakin
You never get a break you're never gonna go
Stop thinking everybody's shakin
I never gotta break but

I survive
You can tryn but you can't deny me
I survive
Like a lie that just won't die
I survive

f%$k you ya think I'm messin around
You think I'm messin around
Well I ain't messin around you see
Back off you'll find your ass on the ground
And when I roll through your town
Well I'll be layin you down to sleep

Stop thinking everybody's shakin
You never get a break you're never gonna go
Stop thinking everybody's shakin
I never gotta break but

I survive
You can tryn but you can't deny me
I survive
Like a lie that just won't die
I survive

  • Boston ~ More than a Feeling -- (best taken on a long straight road)
  • A-Ha ~ Take On Me -- (when happy syncopation desired -- curves)
  • Guns & Roses ~ Sweet Child of Mine (when riding through a tunnel of trees)
  • The Cure ~ Just Like Heaven (anytime on my GS500...)

A Redshift sighting. . . rare.  Right up there with Nessy, the Yeti, and Skunk Ape.  Nice to see you post!!!

Yes , though any one song off of Cowbots from Hell is better IMO . It's when they still had "fresh" ideas ... and Phil actually sang instead of barked . I saw them twice at local clubs with 1000 seat capacity tops ... much better back in the day before they got big and Phil stopped singing  :icon_confused:

I have to admit this one lol - "I need a Hero" by Bonnie Tyler . I never really cared for the song before it was used to such great effect at the climax of "Short Circuit 2" , when #5 is leaking battery fluid , racing to catch the bad guys on the boat ...

:icon_rolleyes: Takes about 20 yrs for a tune to recover after getting thoroughly burned by too much radioplay and it's only been 15 for that one.

For road songs it's hard to beat records with a big guitar intro--like Steve Miller's Rockin' Me and Jet Airliner.  :thumb:

Good one Yama.

May I also add that if you're out all alone on a dark night and listen to Lightfoot's The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_8s2zsNhSM&mode=related&search=), it'll put a shiver up your spine.    8)
