Title: i sent an email to yoshimura rd
Post by: Chris24 on July 09, 2007, 11:40:46 AM
it seems that alot of people (including myself) wish that yoshimura still made a full exhaust system for the gs500. sadly its no longer made, which i thought as funny since there seems to be decent demand. i figured why not ask yoshimura about the possibility of a re-release or a special order/group buy, etc...no harm in asking right? the worst they can do is say no, which leaves us right where we started. i *just* email it now, here is a copy of the email i sent:

QuoteHello,

Quick question, is it possible have yoshimura build exhaust systems that are no longer in production? perhaps on a special order or "build-it-when-you-order" it system? perhaps if a bulk order was put in? i believe i may be able to organize a group buy if it would be possible to get them made.

the reason i ask is that to my knowledge yoshimura no longer produces a full exhaust system for the suzuki gs500. (i know the TRS slip on is available) but myself and many others from gstwin.com are particular about looking for a full system, most of us would prefer yoshimura headers.

while jardine and vance and hines do offer full systems for the gs500, most gs owners are reluctant to buy them, as we are looking for the best peformance available (synonomous with yoshimura!) however, some are electing to go with those systems instead of opting for only the TRS slip on.

please let me know if anything could be arranged, and if not, consider this a request to re-release the product, perhaps if you recieve enough request then yoshimura could consider a re-release.

thank you!

Yoshimura for the win!

i have written to yoshimura before about other issues, they are good about sending an email back (from a real person to boot!) within a day or so. i will post their response as soon as i recieve it.

what would yall say to a group buy if yoshimura is willing to release a run of full systems? maybe we could get them to do it, or get a better deal if we can get 10 or so people to pre-pay? anyone interested?

Considering that they're charging $380 for a stainless slip-on that's mass-produced, a limited-run full system is going to be pretty pricey... though I would be interested if the price was ok.

I'm one of the lucky bastards that got a clean example of the old stealth system.  Love it, wouldn't buy a new one to replace it.  Sounds much better than Daniely's full Jardine and I get positive comments on the tone all the time.  My bike for some reason gets mistaken for a 1st gen SV650 quite a bit...

Yosh is good stuff, pricey but look at what you'd pay for a full system on a 600.  Just because you bought the bike for 1500-2000 doesn't mean the rest of the parts are going to be 1/3 to 1/5 the price of every other bike's available farkles.

Indeed.  I *almost* bought a neighbor's GS that I thought had a full Yosh, but alas it was just a random Yosh slip-on.

Considering the price of a TRS and the fact that full Yosh systems are now in the $500+ range, as well as the exhaust ports being more limiting than the header pipe, I would probably spring for a slip-on over a full system, at least for street riding.  I'm looking very hard at getting a TRS slip-on, given my budget, the crack in my stock mid-pipe, and the fact that I'm planning to do a lunchbox plus rejet anyway.

Slightly off-topic... what is the difference between say a TRS slip-on for the GS and one for the SV or GSX-R or any other bike?  Are the exhausts tuned for particular bikes?  Meaning that buying a generic slip-on isn't the best for a flat power band?  Is the difference going to be noticeable between a GS500 TRS and a SV650 TRS?

Also, do particular pipe makers such as V&H or Yosh have specific jet recommendations?  Surely they must test their exhausts on GS500's that have been rejetted...

Here's the standard Performance guide which came with my vintage Yosh:
Quote
*  If it runs OK, leave it alone!!

*  If running a little flat on the top end, go 1 to 2 sizes larger on the MAIN JETS.  If flat in the mid-range or off idle raise the NEEDLE .020 to .040 in.  .020 in washers should do the trick.

* Idle circuit plugs should be removed and idle mixture adjusted, JET size should be OK.

I'm pretty sure the old Yoshs will fit even with the oil cooler.
