so I got my bike running after getting a carb and i was riding around thinking nothing was wrong and a I start parking next to the rest of the bikes and I notice that I'm the only bike with no front fender. so I order one from canada and it takes about a month to get here, but it's finally here and I have no hardware. can you be so kind to let me know the size and kind of hardware I need to put this fender on my bike. Also do I need to remove the front tire to put the fender on? thanks. Have a great day!!!!
I'm not sure I get the question. You need some machine bolts with the correct thread, and a wrench. If you use allen head bolts, then you need an allen wrench. Am I missing something here? :dunno_white:

i have the one off my bike. to bad you didnt buy mine it has all the hard ware with it. yes you will have to take the front tire off to put the new fender on. atleast i did maybe there is a trick to it but i didnt see how you would with out taking it off. if you want the bolts off mine let me know we could probably work something out
thanks for the offer on the bolts, but if you could just tell me the size so I can go to the hardware store and get some, that would be great. I was informed it was illegal to run without the fender so I want to get it fixed as soon as possible, or else I would get your bolts from you, thanks anyways.
i guess i dont understand how it is illegal. there is harleys that are running around all over the states that dont have front fenders. infact i believe on certain bikes they come from the dealer without front fenders. but again i could be wrong
Yeah, I read that and I was like.... WHAAAA?!?!? :o
I have no mental concept of why a front fender would be required to operate.
They actually are here too Chuck..you won't pass an inspection without some sort of front fender..I tried it once..
Any clue why? A sensible answer will soothe my baffled rage until I move to a less socialist and overtaxed state.

It's probably a blanket law for all motor vehicles. A bike tire has an engine, etc behind it, so it's less likely to kick up stones, but an exposed car tire may very well pose that risk to other motorists.

Yes, well I can't remove the fender from my car without doing some major body damage.

Heh, true. But the law was likely written in the 1920s, when you *could* easily do so...

well i know here in missouri and in kansas if you lift your vehicles over a certain heigth you have to run a mud flap but thats the only law as far as tires and fenders and stuff goes. it just confuses me why that would be a law. the only thing that a fender would do is stop the water on the road from hitting the rider in the face. :dunno_white:
try this out it should take you right to the oem front fender and it says everything that is on that thing. 8)

I do believe it has to do with water, mud, and stones being kicked up... But who knows...why must you have two rear red reflectors? Are two tiny 1"x .5" shiny areas going to save you? Doubtful but you still have to have them...
thanks for the link, I will go to the hardware store and get some bolts as soon as I get off of work. as for the law, I don't write it, i just abide by it. I don't have the money to get a ticket and i don't have the time to get pulled over. i wish i had an aswer as to why it was illegal but i don't. thanks again
no problem
You need 4 off M6x12 socket-button head bolts.
Quote from: California Vehicle CodeFenders (27600). No person shall operate any motor vehicle having three or more wheels unless equipped with fenders, flaps, or other
devices, at least as wide as the tire thread, to effectively minimize the spray or splash of mud or water to the rear. This section does not
apply to vehicles exempt from registration, or registered prior to January 1, 1971, and which have an unladen weight of under 1,500
pounds. (Does not apply to motorized bicycles.)
Last I checked the GS doesn't have 3 or more wheels. If you're ever curious about what is required in California, look up CHP form 888, which has everything in plain english and lists the appropriate vehicle code sections.
