Title: Exhaust holes - repairable?
Post by: Black Sunshine on July 12, 2007, 12:33:08 AM
I have a few holes in the can from where the things corroded through. The worst ones down by the bracket and its spraying soot all over my disc, the other is covering the heel plate and my foot, but not as bad. Possible to weld it up? Using MIG welding that is, can get it done free that way! Just worried about them getting any bigger, and my engine getting shot from it.

On a better note, looking to get a full system exhaust at some point, what is available in the UK (if anyone knows) and whats the best thing to go for?

free is always worth a try.
what is the worst that could happen....you have more holes

ya probably won't pass a MOT with the holes

I think ya'll on the right side can get remus and lazer and probably some others
us on the left side
can still get a ....i think... V&H and maybe a yosh

check out the people who have modified another muffler to fit and keep the headpipe covered in good paint

hope this helps

Beautiful, thanks for the advice!

Do you know if those ones are full systems? The downpipes look terrible on mine, want to change them over.

If you try to weld rust it'll just blow a bigger hole in it.Good luck.

anything can be repaired
but the question is.....is it worth it?

I JB Weld everything.  I don't know why it works, but it does.

I've never JB welded an exhaust, though.  Maybe that's the limit.

i found 2 small holes and wonder if i should go through the trouble of having them weld shut....

There's a BR green Works Cooper S on the island, the thing is ridiculously fast.  I've seen it f%$king blow Porshce's and Vette's out of the water, it sounds like it's constantly going to blow up though.

I wish i would've seen this product posted before I added jb weld.

I've ridden about 150 miles on my JB weld patch up job.
And so far so good.

Note:
I applied the JB weld where the two pipes convert to one pipe below the bike.
Just a few tiny holes.

I'll wait til it wears off so I can use the other product.

Have welded holes up with MIG on other bikes no problems.  Just need to remember to cut the rusted section out and replace with plate and weld in place like a patch.  Spot welding the hole will blow out into an ugly mess as the steel is so thin where the hole has blown through.
