Title: Went shopping and got a .40
Post by: blue05twin on July 14, 2007, 02:28:22 PM
Went to gun show today and ended up getting a S&W M&P .40.  Light easy to shoot and I really like it.  Picked up some FMJ's for it and a box of Winchester Ranger rounds.

There was also a Ruger .22LR pistol that looked real nice, might have to go back and get that, brand new it was $199.

Good choice on the S&W my buddy has one and loves it...those Rugers are really nice too, I'd like to get one on my 21st. :thumb:

Was it the Ruger with the 9mm/.45 grip or just the regular knurled grip?  They make all sorts of cool styles of those Ruger pistols

Very cool... I've been looking for a pistol.... not that I'll be able to afford it for awhile, but I want once ASAP... going to get my CCL permit in on Monday, actually. I really wanna see the new Springfield in .45 ACP, as it's something I think I might like to carry... you didn't happen to see it while you were there, did you? Interested in going back tomorrow to hang out? I'd offer to give you the cash I owe you tomorrow.. but the stupid f*cking bank holds all my deposits for 5 business days, since I just opened a new account...

now I'm off to bed...

Nick's it's Eastman's Gun Show in Lawrenceville, Yes several vendors had the Springfield XD's in the 9mm .40 and .45.

85 North exit 101 Take a right off the exit

2nd light make a right

about 200 yards down the road you will see a sign North Atl Convention Center make a right and it's the building right in front of you.

I'm going to try and go again tomorrow, I want to take a look at a 30 30 they had and that 22 ruger.  Give me a call if you want to go, we can go riding afterwards.

One of the vendors did have a special going S&W 9mm or .40 Sigma with 2 clips & a knife for $310 brand new.

NGFL:  you know that there is a review time in which the court can take up to 60 days before granting a Concealed Carry permit.  And the have to get state records checks, ncic, gcic, etc....  You don't just walk in and apply and walk out with the permit.  It's a felony to conceal a weapon without proper licensure.  It however is perfectly legal to carry it in an open manner until you have the permit. (entirety of the weapon must be visible from 3 sides)

OK off my soapbox:  you should so get a 6 shot .454 :icon_twisted:

why would you need to carry one to begin with?  don't use the tired old "for protection" thing because 1. you can't hit the broad side of a barn with a pistol and 2. it is more likely to be taken away and used on you than to save you

I carry one for protection.  I can place the entire clip of my kel'tec inside of a 2" group at 25m.   And there's no chance in hell anyone would get it from me.

Frankie, does this comment apply to all firearms owners or just people who conceal carry?

What about those of us whom have completed extensive combatives and firearms training?

You need to f%$king move to Canada.

Gosh, isn't it odd that 2 of the states with the strictest gun control laws also have the highest crime rates??? (NY, CA)  While down in GA, where getting a CCW is essentially just waiting for a stamp, even in Atl. the violent crime rate is virtually non-existant in comparison with cities of similar size in Cali and NY.

he probably wouldn't be to happy there either, everyone has at leased a couple hunting rifles.  :dunno_white: thats what I've gathered from my 13 years living there.

I don't think frankies problem is with hunting weapons, I think he is singling out personal sidearms.

ah i see then he should move to canada, their gun control makes it very hard to get ur hands on a sidearm. most of them are smuggled in from US  :thumb:

*yawn* I thought this was a motorcycle forum anyway?

Frankie actually has a good point.  I have better things to do than drag a gun around with me wherever I go.  Beyond the regulations regarding where I can and can't go, It doesn't pay enough.  ;)

Terry I will leave you to fight this fight my opinion of personal firearms ownership and CCW's should be fairly transparent.

"If you are not a liberal at twenty, you have no heart. If you are not a conservative at forty, you have no brain."-
Winston Churchhill

Of course my attitude reminds me of this quote

"All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent."
Thomas Jefferson

"Enlighten the people generally, and tyranny and oppressions of body and mind will vanish like evil spirits at the dawn of day."
Thomas Jefferson

So to establish my position more clearly I will post a few of my favorite quotes.

"Every citizen should be a soldier. This was the case with the Greeks and Romans, and must be that of every free state."
Thomas Jefferson

And what is it that every soldier posseses? The implemnets of their trade, the tools of war.

"For a people who are free, and who mean to remain so, a well-organized and armed militia is their best security."
Thomas Jefferson

And finally if you have read this far without imploding.

"I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than those attending too small a degree of it."
Thomas Jefferson

Well, here we go again :icon_rolleyes:
One reason I am such a staunch defender of the right to carry a concealed firearm would be personal experience.
1. Ybor city, 2005:  Myself and two friends were accosted by a group of non-english speaking gentlemen with knives. Though they did not speak english, their intent was fairly clear. As the 'leader' of the group step toward me, I told one friend to call the police.  Then I pulled my PA-63 (BTW, awesome CCW weapon and pretty cheap) and made my point to the gentleman.  We stood there with my firearm to his forehead for 10 minutes( mostly consumed with his buddy's running like hell and him crying like a little Buddha Loves You) waiting on the police, who told me if I had shot him I would have been well within my legal rights according to the state of florida.

2. Sept. 14 2006, My primary residence:  A gentleman broke in with a crowbar thinking no one was home because I didn't park my car there and everyone else was gone.   At first, I figured it was one of my roommates, so I let it go.  Then I heard the TV crash to the floor.  I grabbed my kel-tec .380 (yet another great CCW weapon for very little money) and went to investigate.  He swung the crowbar at me when I yelled at him. I shot him twice in the knee.  Police and Ambulance arrive, I give a statement.  DA, reviews facts finds no case against me and allows me to press charges for burglary and attempted aggravated assault.  The gentleman is sitting in jail for the next 4 years with one leg amputated below the knee.  I can say with 100% certainty that he will never burglarize another home.

I believe that states should fund firearms awareness and practical training for anyone outside of military and law enforcement ( who in most states are exempt from CCW law) wishing to acquire a firearms permit.  But no man or woman whom meets the certain obvious criteria should be denied the right to bear arms.

Dave, sorry I never called you.. I never went home the other night.. crashed at a friend's house, then went back to the bar tonight... didn't have to DD... I'm hammered, cuz my friend offered to pay for all my alcohol.. so, 15 jaeger bombs, 4 shots, and 3 beers later.. I'm drunk.. I got 2 numbers tonight, which I'm pretty fuckin proud of that...

Anyway, to terry: Yeah, I know about the waiting period.. i won't be buying a pistol anytime soon, i have to pay Dave first, that's why I haven't even gotten my exhaust yet, cuz I feel guilty doing it before I pay Dave for his bike.

To Frankie: You're an idiot if you believe I can't hit a barn with a pistol. At 10 yards, I can put 15 rounds inside of 2 inches. 10 yards isn't far, but in a self defense situation, it's plenty far. I practice high stress situations, double taps, shots with obstacles (i.e., bystanders), etc... In a high stress situation, i believe I could operate almost as effectively as I can at a range. I have out shot police officers at the range before. If they can carry, why can't I? Just because you don't believe you need a weapon (and if you don't, I'm fine with that), is no reason to insult those of us who wish to carry. Not to make light of it, but VT tried to pass a bylaw allowing students with CCLs to carry on campus (currently, if you are a student, and you have a CCL, you can't carry on your college campus)... it was shot down 2 years ago. If multiple students had had pistols, do you think that sick f%$k would have killed as many people as he did? No, cuz someone with a weapon would have returned fire. Even if they hadn't wounded him seriously (or even hit him), they would have slowed him down enough to allow police to arrive and prevent such a massacre.

Dave, I'll call you soon, we'll hang out, go shooting or something, and I'll pay you (Instead of going skydiving, like I was going to), and we'll go ride for a bit, once I get my new tires on (I spun my rear the other day... a 33rwhp bike shouldn't be spinning the rear on dry pavement... it's scary how bald my tire is... 13.5K miles on it)...

Sorry to have turned your thread into a weapons debate, it was supposed to be about your new pistol.

When you get around to getting a sidearm give the FEG PA-63 some serious consideration.  It is an awesome weapon and very easily concealed :thumb:  Never had a jam out of it either :thumb:

Sorry to cause a debate,

Hey NIck if you need a new rear tire I got an extra one you can have at the house.  It has a little less than 2k miles on it.  It's mounted already but you can either remove it and mount it on your rim or just take the whole thing and bring the rim back later.

Geep damn this is a motorcycle forum. . umm sorry guess I better not post anything unless its strictly motocycle related.

Frankie, I have a small duck and haveing a gun makes my duck feel like its at least 8" longer than when I dont have my pistol on me.  Besides that I'm insecure and having a gun makes me feel manly hell without it I would feel like Peewee Herman, without all the masturbating. :flipoff:

FYI I don't carry a gun on me.  Just because people have a firearm doesn't mean they go around armed all the time.   I do like to head over to the range and shoot for me it's very relaxing and helps me sort out things in my head.   Usually I just rent a gun there but decieded that since my son and wife have moved out I would buy one.  As far as firearm safty / training I think I got enough of that when I was in the Marines.  I was qualifed expert with the 45 when I was in the corps so yes i can hit the broad side of a barn with a pistol.

Guys, we both know this topic always spurs a debate and it's about as on topic as me advertising a Buss planer in the for sale section.  You knew what was going to happen before you posted.

Frankly, I don't care, just so long as the bullets aren't whizzing over MY head.   ;)
