Probably been discussed a thousand times, but I'm due for a new rear tire. Please help a noob out. :icon_mrgreen:
Seems like the Avon or the Bridgestones are the way to go.
Or Pirelli or Michelin or Metzler
Seriously though, what are you looking for in a tire? Cheap? Long life? Extra sticky? Are you looking into stock sizes or do you want something different?
I shop around for the best price, but I bought my last tire here: http://www.americanmototire.com/ (http://www.americanmototire.com/) and I was very happy with the price and quick shipping
I'm looking for a semi-sporty touring tire. Probably a 40.
Then yeah, I'd probably just go with the AM26 or BT45 since they are about $30 cheaper than the tires I mentioned. They'll get the job done
edit: the BT-45 price I found was under oem replacement for the GS500F and that was a 130/70-17 size only. If you just look at BT-45 the price is about $20 higher. The price probably varies by retailer, which is why I said I shop around
I just bought a Bridgestone Spitfire. Seems like a good tire- good price and bridgetone quality.
the websites I looked at said it was a good tire for bikes of the 80s and 90's (my GS is 89)

I have Kenda 671's.They last a long time and are a good sport touring tire.Just don't expect to drag your knee around curves.bout $180 for a matched 110/130-70-17 + shipping. Can't find the website were I saw that price.
Nice. I just bought a front/rear Kenda 671's off Ebay.
The front was only $45 and the rear was only $49. :thumb:
Search this store: http://stores.ebay.com/TIRESCHEAP
...and there we have my first post! ;)
You can get a OEM size pair of Kenda K671 tires for $106 plus $9 per tire shipping from Chaparral.

Those ones on E-Bay are $17 each for shipping.
$45 front + $49 rear + $17 for shipping + $8 for the additional item + $7 for insurance. Total $126.
....to be exact. :)
I bought myset of pirelli sport demons from Motorcycle Superstore (http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com)
The rear is 95.99 right now..free shipping over $100 I bought both the front and the rear and I'm glad I spent the money...The roads around here are never straight...you're always leaning... I believe I bought mine on sale though..both for about $140 shipped...
I just bought the Avon Road Riders ( thanks GSJack :)
They are SUPER high quality and VERY low cost. They have them on mawonline. I got mine from work for a little cheaper and no shipping :thumb:

I dig my 110/150/70 Pilot Roads. More expensive, but I feel comfortable dragging knee on the street with them, and I've got 10K miles on the front, plus a track day, and still got plenty of tread to go. Rear tire was getting a flat spot down the center of the tread, but then got razor-bladed, so I replaced it and this new rear seems to be holding up better. I might just be backing it into corners less than I was with the old tire though
