Question:
Should ebay auction links or other off-site for sale listings be allowed or banned?
Option 1: Ban them
Option 2: Allow them
Option 3: Only allowed if offered here first
I am curious of what the masses here feel about posts with links to ebay auctions, as well as Craigs Lists and other non-GST site links, without offering the sale to the members here first.
Comments?
Thanks,
This needed to be addressed. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
I'm with you guys, dgyver and specterry.
Folks, if you want to offer your parts to the folks here, then offer them here first, not on ebay with a message to check your auction there.
If no one bites, then put them on ebay or whatever and knock yourself out.
Otherwise, don't post them on ebay and then tell us all about them.
A classic example was the fellow last week who posted stock handlebars, turn signals, a top triple clamp and a STOCK GS500 rear shock (like someone is really going to want that one!).
Then he added high shipping prices of $15 (for 2 turn signals) and $20 (for handlebars) or so for each, which was really ridiculous, as well as high starting prices.
Then he thought we'd all be interested in the "deals" he was offering.
Very amusing.
Anyway, I agree. If you want to offer stuff to our community first, do so by going to us directly and then do what you want with ebay if you aren't getting any bites here.
That seems more fair, and usually works out for all.
Best wishes,
Todd
I highly agree. In fact I am thinking about selling the new fairing I got with my bike, but havent asked the wife yet. Ill keep ya'll posted.
i agree that if your trying to sell something, then offer it to us, not an eBay link. but what if you find something you think others might like that you have no affiliation with
Peeve of mine when people post their previously unadvertised site specific auctions...but, in reality, my dog leaves presents in the yard that care more about it than I do. Can't you guys find more important stuff to get up in arms over?
i disagree, i inform people here of a sale but if i have to choose everything will go straight to e-bay
Ban. We're here for us, not for other sites.
you do realize that you are cutting off your nose to spite your face. the vast majority of gs owners are not members of this site. it is a service to let you guys know, at least that is how i see it. to be brutally honest you can get way more money on e-bay than offering it here. if you decide to ban it i will respect that...i just don't think it makes sense thats all.
Considering the fact that Dgyver, or anyone else who's posted, is not forum staff and knowing that the forum staff really isn't bothered, I doubt it'll be "banned".
As Frankie said...there's been roughly 544,000 GS500's sold and how many of those owners do you think are here? The number of owners here is immeasurably smaller than that found on eBay. Banning auction links in general is quire retarded. If you have a such a problem with Ebay, don't click the links...you can usually spot them easily enough by the "www.ebay.com" found at the beginning of the link.
Mak....
I love you man....Hehehehe "" you can usually spot them easily enough by the "www.ebay.com" found at the beginning of the link. "" Too funny... I'm stil giggling..
Oh Yeah I voted Allow.... but hey I typically put my stuff here first anyway.....In case you were taking a Poll or something...
I'd say, let people do what they want. If a user doesn't like the idea of people posting EBay auctions, they're more than welcome not to bid.
-b.
i offer my stuff here first....want to give you guys a better deal than some random person. If there's no interest, then they go to ebay. Just common courtesy to everyone here.

Of course you can. But I offer anything I have here for a discounted price first, as a way of giving back to the community, since this forum has helped me so much. If there's no interest here, I'll get on ebay and let some guy pay double what I'd charge a member here...
my vote is allow them...why:
IMO this is how it should be done...
it should be okay to post links to ebay auctions, BUT, in the post you state that any member of the board get some dicount, say 20% of the total. the 20% discount would be given through paypal or whatever when the auction is over. the gstwin member can then basicly outbid everyone else, but in reality only have to pay less.
its good for the gstwin member, he still gets a discount. its also good for the seller, because if a non member wants it bad enough he ends up paying 20% + some to outbid the gstwin member.
obviously nothing should be said about the special deal on the auction, that should be left only on gstwin.com and the discount should be handled through email only.
If a member here is selling something,I believe it should be given a fair chance here, before it goes to ebay.Say a week at least, maybe 2 weeks, then ebay it and post a link.
I do feel it's ok to post links to mc's or parts being sold by someone not on this forum.
I started this to see what the members felt. I have seen a few that have posted disliking the the link only posts but not the one wanting to be allowed to post such links. Personally, I do not like the ebay link only posts. True I am not a mod or have any say on how this forum is run...but...the members are what makes this forum a reason to come here.
The only thing to gain by startinging a link only post is that the seller has greater potential for making more money. As for making more money on ebay, that is not always true due to the fees imposed. The same item could be sold here for about the same profit for the seller and a better deal for the buyer. This site gains nothing by hosting links to ebay but ebay has a monetary gain.
So what is the difference of someone posting a "spam" link (that will get deleted) and someone posting just a link to an ebay auction? Technically they are both spam.
I am waiting on a mod/admin to post a response.
If all they can do is post a link with no explanation then it should get deleted...not because linking to ebay is bad, but because that's just plain lazy.

+1 agreed
Allow them
Going off track a little. Can someone tell me whether the "for sale" forum here is for GS parts or related stuff only? Can I post non GS items I want to sell?
You can post anything you want...so long as it's not a gun.
^^^^That's not true, I posted some non motorcycle related items in the for sale and it was deleted with a pm from a mod telling me that only motorcylce related items can be sold there.
you were lied to.

That was the line quoted to me...i guess the point being motorcycle related items. :dunno_white:
If your posting in the For Sale Wanted Section then i think you can post whatever links you like, any links to ebay motorcycle stuff that might be of interest to the members here is fair game whether it is yours or someone elses sale.
Its not cluttering the general forum so shouldnt be a problem.
Whatever decision is made it doesnt really bother me but i tell you now the only way it would work is a total ban or all allowed, you cant put restrictions on it because theres no way to know whether the seller is a true gs twins member or whether they have listed the item previously here before. It would have to be total ban or completely allowed.

So moderators..what is the lowdown on this issue. Can we post non-related GSt stuff or not?
there's non-gs stuff posted there right now. there always has been. it's there for us to use for our bike related stuff, but it's also there for all but some sensitive other stuff.
Allow, simply because everyone needs parts. Like always, user discretion is what it is. Buyer beware !
Why not allow them? Some time back I saw a nice GS on Ebay and gave a link.It wasn't mine,I didn't have a dog in the race.
I just posted it in hopes someone in that area may want to check it out.Who knows when a lurker is watching.I thought we were about promoting the sport, and our make of bikes. :thumb:
If someone gets ticked because a bike or parts are offered at a lower price over there, get a life.I've purchased many parts here and there.
I've also had parts offered to me just for the shipping here, for which I was grateful. And I'll do the same when I can..again it's about keeping our Suzuki's running and enjoying the sport.I haven't been a member that long and you can do whatever you want, but if you make it harder to find bikes and parts. You will see people migrate towards a Ninja rather than a GS. :icon_rolleyes:
