Title: First dump
Post by: Suzuk-E on July 18, 2007, 11:55:44 PM
almost ended up going head first into the back of a escolade. they stopped on a yellow. i was coming in hot and following to close. locked up the rear wheel. then front. endo'd and JUST missed contact. I somehow hit the ground running and was able to stumble along side of the escolade right to eye level of the passenger who was just as freaked as me. I froze. I did a self eval to make sure nothing was hurting. I was okay. Right mirrors gone. front brake lever snapped off. Handle bars pushed 3 inches left. strangers asking if I'm alright. I'm okay, bikes all fixed now, but the entire incident was scary and embarrassing. lesson learned.

First dump?

You're a big kid now!

Glad you're alright, though.

You don't know the half of catching shaZam! because people are convinced you're gonna die.   My whole family flipped when I bought a new bike after my wreck.  They all wanted to know if it was slower or a cruiser...........I was like ' actually it puts over 2x the power' :o    I'm pretty close to being disowned by my mom.  My dad's  whole side of the family has a history of the males lacking common sense, so I'm pretty much fitting right in

Glad you didn't get scratched up man.

Almost the same thing happened to me about a month ago on my gsf. The car was a camry, and the lady driving was stopping really fast for a pedestrian in the crosswalk. It was a bit early in the morning, and I wasn't paying enough attention to the whole situation. I was less than 15 feet from her bumper still going 30, and I just grabbed the front brake, probably too hard. I'm not exactly sure what happened next; I think that the wheel locked, but before I knew it, the bike was on the ground. Somehow, I managed to end up on my feet.

After picking the bike up and pushing it to the curb, the driver was nice enough to stop and check if everything was fine. The right fairing, mirror, and the exhaust were all scratched up a bit. I'm still looking into putting frame sliders on it, but I just can't seem to find a good place to attach them.

Glad you're allright :thumb:
I was quite close to another thing like that last saturday evening, on my way to work...
National road, out of town, perfect weather condition, little traffic.
three cars going straight in a line, me on my bike behind.
I was just going to overtake one of the cars, I was rather close to the last car, had already downshifted and was ready to go.
But...
the head vehicle suddenly slows down to pull over, so do the two cars in front of me.
Damn me dumb@$$.
Not enough room to stop. F$%k. :o :o
I downshift more and more, squeeze my brakes (both).
Maybe I squeeze a little bit too much the front brake, because the front wheel starts to wobble violently and it seems to be locked. :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
I didn't know if the worst part was the locked front wheel or the fact that I could see that white supermini's hatch and plate coming closer and closer. :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
Didn't lose control and fall over, but I felt very, very close to that.

Luckily, in the end I unlock the front wheel by releasing the lever, and manage to swerve a bit, so we all pull away easy and unharmed.
Lesson, hopefully, learned.
keep safety distance, always. :thumb:

Glad you're alright.  I have a friend who/s due for something like this soon. I hate to say it, but its only a  matter of time.  Hes a little overconfident in his riding ability, tries to go out and keep up with a bunch of crazy people we know who stunt R6's.  Whenever I've ridden with him he like to ride the bumper of the car in front of him.

One time we were following some friends in a car to a restaraunt.  My buddy driving made a turn without signalling. We get to the parking lot and mr. followstooclose actually tried to start reaming him out for "almost laying him out" by taking a turn he "didn't expect and not signalling".  We tried to explain following distance but he was convince it wasn't his fault.
And this is coming from a kid who took the basic rider course!

I'm glad you're ok, crashing is always a scary thing to do. I'm always glad to see more black GS riders though, around here the only black guys I see riding are 45 and on old Goldwings with no gear. You were wearing all your gear, right?
