Title: 2nd Air Valve Assembly?!? Help? Someone?
Post by: nancegt350 on July 20, 2007, 07:13:03 PM
So I'm getting ready to do the lunchbox air filter - and I'm going over all the hoses that connected to the air box. There was the one on the top - the one that runs to the valve cover. Then there are TWO beneath. One is the drain that runs down to the foot peg. The OTHER is a hose that runs to a "2nd air valve assembly" that's bolted to the frame just opposite the vaccum canister. See : http://houseofmotorcycles.bikebandit.com/partsbandit/oem_schematic_view~schem_dept_id~2360599~section_dept_id~1~section_dept_name~OEM+%28Stock%29+Parts~dept_type_id~2~model_dept_year~2006~model_dept_mfr~Suzuki~model_dept_id~2360598~model_dept_name~GS500F.asp (http://houseofmotorcycles.bikebandit.com/partsbandit/oem_schematic_view~schem_dept_id~2360599~section_dept_id~1~section_dept_name~OEM+%28Stock%29+Parts~dept_type_id~2~model_dept_year~2006~model_dept_mfr~Suzuki~model_dept_id~2360598~model_dept_name~GS500F.asp)

if that link doesn't work , you can go to bike bandit, look up the gs500f and it is the very first manufaturer item. Any idea what this is? and should I just stick a little breather filter on it like the valve cover breather and let it go?

:dunno_white: if it doesn't have a direct flow to the engine or carbs,I wouldn't worry bout it.

Well, that's kinda what I was thinking. With it coming into the bottom of the air box, it can't be THAT important. But just for future reference ... anyone know what the heck that is? It does have a vaccum line running to it.

2nd air filter is sometimes known as an air injection system.
Even if you remove it, your GS runs well, although it causes environmental pollution.

It directly sends additional air to an exausto port, and carbon monooxide and hydrocarbon in raw exaust gas are decreased by oxidization.
This is one of the most basic (and cheap) options to pass new standards of exaust emission control.

is this a California bike? California requires a bunch of extra emission crap.
