Title: Newer gas tank on older GS?
Post by: davidd91 on August 02, 2003, 06:25:25 PM
Will a 2001+ gas tank fit on an older (1996) GS?  I need to replace mine, and I reckon I'll put a newer one on there if possible because I understand they hold an extra gallon of gas.  BTW, if anyone knows where I can source a tank in really good shape, please speak up!!!

You will have to use the new seat too because how the seat buts up to the tank is different than the old.

I'd love to use all the new stuff. (Tank, Seat, Plastic around seat) Anyone tried this?

If I remember correctly the seat mount is differant too. SO you need, tank seat, seat mount hardware, and new plastics, grab rail, and tail light to make a new tank work "right". You might be able to bubba something up so you can use your existing seat but I don't know what would be involved.

The newer tank also dont have the mounting ears for the plastic...once again you need to bubba somehitng. The newer seat will not let you bubba it as easily...so your best bet is the old seat and new tank...that way just 1 bubba is needed...Love that expression snoman...
Cool.
