Title: Engine Drop Need help!!!
Post by: jbien on July 23, 2007, 05:03:37 PM
I am droping the engine out of my bike, I think i found the major engine mounts, but am I going to need to remove the gas tank?? If so how?? Where should I begin??? I know this is alot of work, but I really want to do this if anyone can help or that knows of a site that could give me some hints, or a somewhat of a guide that would be greatly appreciated.  :thumb:

Look, I don't want to come across as mean or unhelpful, but I really don't want to help get you into deeper trouble either.

I don't know why you're removing the engine, but, honestly, if you don't even know how to remove your tank yet, or have any idea where or how to find the information,  it might be a good idea just to re-think the plan... it's sort of like someone saying they're going to fly a plane, and asking how to get the cockpit door open.  It's at least troubling.

Best advise is to buy a service manual.

I swapped engines using the instructions in the Haynes manual.  It was pretty straightforward, but you have to do everything in the right order.

Well the engine is locked up, and I dont feel like paying for labor so I can have it remove. School is almost out and I'll have a good four weeks to work on getting it out. Yeah I know it may sound stupid that a newb is trying to drop his engine but I want to do it. Where Can i get a service manual, besides the dealership, anywere online??

Yes.The carbs are a little different and the ignition/charging system is a little different. All you'll have to do is change your good parts over to the new engine. :thumb:
