Just when I got the bike running perfectly, the seat lock decides to be finicky. When I turn the key in the lock, the cable only pulls the latchs half-open (the black sliding thing that usually resides on the right side when locked doesn't fully move to the left). Took a look at the cable and tumbler, and everything seems fine. Am I missing something?
if you havn't tried pushing down on the seat when turning the key give that a try. Mine, 05, doesn't like to open without a little bit of pressure.
i have to beat the ever-loving shiot out of my seat while trying to turn the key to get it off. Because i ride in florida and my plastics is gone under the seat sand gets up in the slider cable. i have to wash it out about once a week to get it to work on a regular basis. if worse comes to worse you might have to take the lock abarpt and pull the cable by hand. that way you done break/bend the key.
I hooked up my cable luber to the cable running from the lock to the latching mechanism the other day, and ran a bunch of WD-40 down through it. Made a world of difference. I'll repeat that in another month or so, but with some lithium grease. It'd probably be a good idea to do that at least once a year.
Be sure to keep it well lubed. Pushing down on the seat does help, it is the only way I can get mine off.
