Title: Stock Pilots, 140 Mains, KN Lunchbox & a really High idle
Post by: _oxygen_ on July 24, 2007, 06:07:06 PM
Installed K&N Lunchbox
Installed 140 Mains
Stock Pilots
2.5 turns out stock washer spacer thing and 0 washers

I thought I got the 40 Pilots but apparently I got the wrong part because it just doesn't look anything like the one I pulled out of the carb.
I got sold this one:

but mine looks like this:

I put everything back together again and the bike sounds like a beast. but I can't get the idle below 3k. Will my problems go away when I get the correct replacement pilots?

Also as far as washers go I assume it goes on the needle next to the e-clip, correct?

If not what could be the problem? I tested for a vacuum leaks and for stuck cables but couldn't find anything. The idle screw is all the way out.
I'm hoping the new pilot jet will fix my woes. In all I'm enjoying the whole experience but I'd like to get my carb issues stabilized. I originally sought to re-jet due to the recommendation to re-jet a stock configuration. My rubber boots going to the airbox had a hole in one side and were leaking causing all kinds of issues so I got the K&N lunchbox instead of new rubber boots. Also the left carb need to have the float bowls adjusted so I was looking at taking the carbs apart anyhow. Thanks for all the posts and what not I really am learning a lot.

Pilots may clean your idle up, but the 140 maiins aint gonna make it up high.
Even stock pipe = 145 ... but IMHO ... YMMV.
Cool.
