Well I just went to the couriers to pick up my parcel of parts from the motorcycle wreckers.
After seeing the in the other thread with the Katana front fender on the GS, I decided to get one of those for mine. I don't need to do the whole FE conversion as I've got my FE pretty well worked out with racetech springs and SS brake line & sintered brake pads, but I do like the look of the Katana fender over the GS one.
I also got a set of '88 clipon bar holders, I have the standard (for Euro & Down Under bikes) '93 clipon on the bike ATM, but they sit a bit too high & back for my liking.
So I'll be spending Saturday putting these parts on. :thumb:
I posted about fitting the Kat fender on GS forks almost a year ago. Suprised that more have not taken up the better looking fender.
And here it is ... http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=29274.0
I only noticed when I saw Derec's bike, it was the first time I had considered it.
I'll post pics when I get it on.
Well I got the parts on.
As it turns out there are 3 different types of clip on bar risers for the GS's. There's the type that was used on the bikes in the US on your '89 models, then two other types that move the bars further back & up. Even though the type I got aren't the same as your '89 risers, these ones still move the bars forward & lower giving a more aggresive riding position.
The middle risers are the original ones and the outside ones are the new ones. I ground off the casting marks.

I decided to paint the fender before I put it on, also as it came with a fork brace I the two braces on. I also got some stainless bolts to replace the existing.
The two fenders for comparison...

I have a US 89 GS and my factory clip on brackets set the bars forward and right on top of the top plate.Look see here.
I'd like to have those taller brackets.

Eh.
The katana front fender looks fat and oversized, like the good ol' katana itself.
The factory one will fit a 120/6017 with no problem, and thats about as big as you need to go.
Looks much better in my opinion.

I'm going to give the Bandit400 fender a try. It's a little wider but not quite as tall.If it wasn't raining I'd put it on and take pictures.
