Title: 2005 GSXR Muffler+HiFloFiltro+DynoJet=Rejetting Problem
Post by: kml.krk on July 25, 2007, 08:54:43 PM
hello. first of all I am new member and I'd like to say hello to everyone!!
I've been GS owner since summer 2006 also I've been "reader" of this forum since then.
I see you guys have created an amazing community here and I am glad things like that exist.

As a second I'd like to ask you for help cause I did not find answer on the forum :( (been looking for couple of days)
I have a problem with rejetted bike. I'll try to explain things as accurately as I can.
My bike is 2004 Yellow GS500F, I don't have to mention that she's amazing :)
Recently I rejetted her with... here comes the problem... DYNOJET kit for 2004 GS500F (I know-I shouldn't have use it but I found out that it's a crap too late). As I said before I have HiFloFiltro and 2005 GSXR Slip-on Muffler. (if anyone would like to see the bike here is the link:  http://bikepics.com/members/kmlkrk/04gs500/ )
I rejetted the bike with following jets:   MAIN=132,  MID-MAIN=stock (dynojet does NOT provide MID-MAINS) pilot jet is 18, 3 turns out at the mixture screw.
Overall bike runs a lot better-starts and warms up a lot easier. It has more power but there is one problem = FLAT SPOT between 5000-6000 RPMs mostly at wide open throttle. I found on this forum that I should shim the needle so I did. I raised it one notch(from fourth from top to the fifth from top) It helped a little bit but not much. And here comes my question! What else should I do? What are the other options besides throwing DynoJet kit away :) (If there is nothing else I can do I am willing to buy new jets but I don't want to spend too much...)
Please help! I know you guys here have done incredible things and you have tons of experience.
Thanks in advance

I never got my hands on the 3- circuit carbs, but I would guess just going up size or two on the mid-mains will help.  Eventually, one of the pro's will chime in.

I'll have to assume HiFlo is a drop-in replacement filter.  Main jets should be DJ124 for this application.  Go back to #4 clip position on the needle and road test.  The flat spot could be either rich or lean--I'm thinking rich based on the MJ.  If you detect any hint of burble as you accelerate through the trouble zone, then rich (drop the needle).  If instead you roll off full throttle a bit and feel a surge, then lean (raise needle).

Oh, and is it too much to ask that we not parrot the party line on Dynojet until the kit is at least installed as per the instructions? :icon_rolleyes:

Yes, HiFloFiltro is an drop-in replacement for stock air box. The only reason I used the biggest MAIN Jet provided by DJ is that I have "aftermarket-like" exhaust (from 2005 GSXR) which has better air flow than GS500's one.
Anyway, I will change the MAIN jet to 128 (that's the size of main jet to be used with aftermarket air filters, according to instructions) and lower the needle back to fourth notch.
If you have any other ideas please let me know.
PS how much changing the jets would cost me? If I wanted t get rid of DynoJet?
Thanks for help

OK so I solved my problem! I bought K&N RU-2970(lunchbox) air filter! Everything runs well now! No flat spots and bike pulls all the way up to redline. I'm going to lower the needle -to fourth notch though, and give it a try (I rised it at some point and thought it would have solved the problem but it didn't). I found that I was on the rich side so RU-2970 helped a lot!

oh and I forgot to mention... RU-2970 is loud! I mean VERY LOUD. It feels like you've put a lion underneath your tank!!! When you open throttle it makes a loud ROAR  :icon_twisted: :icon_twisted: But I like it!! I think it sounds great! I just wonder if people around you can hear that??
Cheers
