anyone got an extra ignitor ( ecu or body control module as some may call it.) i am trouble shooting my bilke & am down to this (i think). the service manual says to take it to the dealer to have it tested with a special suzuki tester. apparently none of the dealers around here are focused on service ( just $60 oil changes maybe) because none of them seem to have or care to have one. the reply i get is bring the whole bike in or by a new igniter (of course they won't let me return it) i am in the florida panhandle & would ship it back quickly once i test it on my bike. i have a sign business & would gladly make any decals for the good soul who seems fit to help me out.
Thank in advance
Mike
No ecu or bcm Just your standard solid state ignition with rotor.
Hi Mike,
I assume you have inspected the pickup sensors beneath the right engine cover? They're generally the most likely portion of the ignition system to fail from what I have read on the board. I think the ignition control box testers are very rare, other members have commented in the past that they have had no choice but to remove and replace the brain box. The primary purpose of the ignition control is to act as an electronic spark advance.
Hopefully, somebody on here will have a used spare you can borrow and test.
What kind of symptoms does your bike show?
:dunno_white: just quit running all together. i have redone the fuel system (sent the carb off to sinrath) & tested the coils. i am getting spark, just don't now if it strong enough or timed right. it will not start no matter what. i have been going through it my self & trying to fix it, i am learning alot on the way.
New spark plugs ??? if so, toss them and put old ones back in, or try champion 809's.
Cool.
Srinath.
I agree with Geep. Pop off that little right hand cover and check your pickups. Mine quit once, it was because a screw holding the pickup plate fell out and the plate shifted :o OK, now really stupid time: shock yourself with the plug. If you yell a four letter word there's enough spark :cookoo: I'm dead serious.

Not suggested... If the spark is a bright blue-white color it is more than sufficient to ignite the fuel air mixture. If the spark is a deep red-blue color then the spark is considered to be "weak", but will usually ignite the fuel mixture anyway.
What year bike and how many miles?
awwww. where's your sense of adventure  I've done it a few times :icon_mrgreen:
I got hooked up to 250,000V 400Hz once. I don't intend on pushing my luck. ;)
it is a 90 with 24,000. the engine has been rebuilt in the last 4-5000 miles i would say. not sure, i bought it like that. it has the blue gasket sealer around the base of the head. i only rode this thing 2x since i bought it 6 months ago. it ran great on the test drive in tallahassee & ran up & down the street once when i got home where it promptly died & wouldn't re-start. the ngk plugs looked good, but i went ahead & replaced the with autolites, still no go. i am getting angry with this bike :2guns:. kinda wish i never sold my m50. but i was thinking this would be more econmoical & alot more fun at deals gap :icon_twisted:.
If you have a spark on both cylinders and the pickups in the right case cover are OK, you don't have an ignition problem. A good spark should look bluish/white.
Are you sure you're getting fuel? Crank the engine over for 10-15 seconds and remove the plugs. Are they wet?
pick-ups are ok. when cranking away at it, the plugs are not physically wet. i have even tried to flood it on occasion, & still nada. i sent the carbs off to sinrath & had himm rejet for lunchbox & v&h exhaust. it is a cali bike if that makes any difference. i removed all that emission crap. i even installed a new tank petcock (needed new screen), fuel lines & vacuum petcock(it was rigged).
i have some of that junk crap from my 89 lying around. e-mail me what you need and you can have it for shipping cost if you want to play around with it.
what spare parts did you have? i am thinking i am needing the igniter & possibly the voltage regulator.
thanks alot,
Mike
I don't think you're getting any fuel. After cranking it for a while the plugs should be almost dripping, especially with the choke on.
if that is the case (they are not dripping with full choke) i am screwed. :dunno_white:\
i have pretty much re-done the whole fuel delivery system.
Are you sure your petcock hoses are properly routed? Did you have the petcock in the "prime" position while trying to start it?
i think i covered all the bases with the fuel routing. i also tried on prime, but it is a new petcock assembly so i assume the vacuum operation is working.
well i finally figured it out. the engine rebuild before i purchased the bike apparently left out a piece. the timing chain jumped about 8 links due to the lack of a front timing chain guide.
