Title: Yet ANOTHER new GS500 Owner....like guppies...lol
Post by: Neo420 on July 27, 2007, 07:12:40 AM
Ok so I bought a 1989 GS500E about 5 weeks ago. Not my first bike by any means, my moto hostory in chronoligical order of ownership is as follows: learned to ride on a 1969 z50 at about 8ish, then a 197? Kawi KE100, 197? Yamma-frickin-Ha dt175, Ninja 250(ex250), 1981 CB750F (very clean), my pops had a VERY clean 1983 Honda CB1100F at this time and a I logged quite a few hours behind the bars of that thing in the foothills near fresno :thumb:,  1982 EUROPEAN SPEC XV920 (based on the 920 virago but with a monoshock and a chain drive running in an oil bath....VERY RARE, AND VERY COOL!) i sold this bike pretty quick after I fell over making a u turn on it and I could barely pick it up and I felt really dumb with like 10 cars watching try to pick up this motorcycle that weighed like 4 time what I did! LOL...it was to rare, to big and heavy, and generally not the best bike for me at 16 yrs old and 5-7 120lbs and I did not want to ruin it! anyway the progression continued on to a couple dual sports from there: 1978 Honda XL350(P.O.S. but ran and got me around), 1979 Yammaha XT500(SEE XL350 DESCRIPTION...lol), 1981 CM450c with superbike bars in place of those dumb cruiser bars(I actually really liked this bike...lot of fun, comfortable, and reliable as an anvil...this bike was part of my motivation for buying my current gs500), 1986(ithink?) honda spree50 (don't ask...lol), 1969 Yamaha DT1-250(didn't run but was all there...never got around to fixing it), 1984 Honda ATC250R  :o (this bike was just NUTS!! DG Pipe and silencer, ported and polished, clamp on uni and jetting...ran like a scalded cheetah!!! can you say 4th gear wheelie?), 1981 Suzook RM80 (same treatment as the ol' 250R...lotta fun   :D , 1984 Yamaha "yicks" Maxim 750(another really clean 80's inline...), 1983 Honda XL600R (one of my favorite all time bikes!), 1983 Honda FT500 Ascot (cool, rare, and fun little bike....but REALLY should have been built around the RFVC Mill the 82-up XL-XR's used...then it would have ROCKED!), 1986 XR600R with a baja kit( I just LOVE these bikes), 1978 Yamaha DT250 (Very Clean...in fact its up for sale right now: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=007&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&viewitem=&item=170134835293&rd=1 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=007&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&viewitem=&item=170134835293&rd=1) ), And Currently But Not Least.... My 1989 Suzuki GS500E. I bought this baby for its well known reliability and super gas milage as I just moved WAAAAY out in the country and my daily commute totals about 110 miles round trip!!! So it was either a bike like this or I was gonna buy a geo metro(funny enough...thats a suzuki too, and probably makes about as much power as a gs500! lol) but who wants to drive a stinkin geo?? Actually I quite like the bike! Its a little bit of a slug but its still pretty fun to ride...and the thing handles great!! The guy  I bought it from put an sv650 shock on the rear and put racetech springs and fresh fork seals on the front so the suspenders are solid...he also but real sticky dunlop rubber on the front and rear which was great at first, but Its to soft to last...Ive put 4K miles on it in the last month and Im about to show cord through the center of the rear. I guess I need some high milage touring rubber to put up with the miles im gonna rack up on this bike.  I have not had much time to do anything to her yet, but I plan on a few things including: Tracking down an original gs500 stock quarter fairing, possibly a katana front end and bandit 600 or 400 rear wheel and maybe a swingarm too, I want to do a custom gear position indicator with leds set into the tach(inspired by a thread I read here), Id like to do a pipe, lunchbox, and jetting for a bit more pep, and when I find an undented tank I will do a nice spraycan paintjob with lots of wetsanding and a clearcoat. Pretty standard stuff, but I think it will come together nice into a good looking tastefull package thats a gas to ride and still retains the stock reliability and economy... Well anyway...that about does it for hello. I just realized I don't have any pics of my GS on the computer im currently using, but ill post a couple later. For now, if you go look at the pics from the auction for my DT250 on ebay you can see the GS in the background in one of the pics.  Not much, but the best I can do at the moment  :D  YALL's Have a Great day

glad to see you're enjoying your bike.  Mine is dented in the the tank too.  Happaned because it was dropped while trying to get it into the garage.  and if all you have is a dented tank then I'm assuming it something like that with you too.
