I parked my bike in front of the DMV and police station the other day. When I got done with extending the registration, I found the bike lying on its side. Brake lever and bar end were pretty bent, and the generator cover now has a small crack. Fortunately, there was a witness, who remembered the plate number and type of the vehicle -- maroon minivan. We went to the station, filed a report. The owner got charged with hit and run ($500 fine + 6 mo loss of license in NJ) but they can't actually find him -- supposedly the house is boarded up and closed. Actually, it probably wasn't the owner's fault, rather his wife's or something, since the owner is male and the witness saw a woman with child.
Thumbs up to the cop who took the report, who also rode (an R6) and was extremely helpful.
Thumbs down to morons who destroy property and think that they can get away with it. Hopefully, karma will catch up with them and give them a good curbstomping. :2guns:  :flipoff:

it's good that someone saw it....good luck with getting your bike fixed. be safe
yea, that sucks....Im sorry man. You gotta find that van...then get a come-along and find a nearby tree...attach one end to left side framerail of van...throw over the top and attach other side to tree on RIGHT side of van. Pull the lever untill the van is in the same position your bike was when you found it! :icon_twisted:

Nah, leave it suspended sideways a few feet above the ground, assuming a sufficiently strong tree. If nothing else, it'll fit the motif of vigilante justice well... :flipoff:

That's why I never park my bike amongst cars , parking on sidewalk might not be legal everywhere , but I'm paranoid about leaving my bike anywhere that is
not safe.
The other day saw a program about growing popularity of minivans which pushes SUVs aside ,so take note ;)
or pour milk all over the car, it seeps into the cracks n rotes making the car smell n it never goes away. pretty much destroys anything it touches on a sunny day
Get fresh popcorn shrimp from your local seafood market and shove it down into the door from the seal with the window :thumb:

All those ideas are great, except that not even the cops can find the van or its owner...

Can't you file against their insurance for damages ? I'm pretty certain the insurance company would make life nasty for a hit n run.
I've seen people bump another car, then look like "damn, what was that" , realize they'd hit another and then speed off.
Shame doesn't do much anymore I guess.
Good luck with getting cooperation and fixing your steed.

For less than $100 -- not really worth it. I'm more just venting that people can be such asshats.
Hit & runs totally suck. I guess they must have let their registration expire if the cops can't find the owner? I wonder if this will be put on their record in case they DO try to bring their registration up to date. I hope so.

Or used a false address to register the vehicle, etc... Who really knows? But, yeah, the idea is to have it on their record to make the registration difficult to renew -- this moron shouldn't be driving! :nono:
