so coming home from work last night i started the bike and i automatically jumped to 5000 rpm's and the whole time stayed there. when i shifted to first and started letting the clutch out and put a load on the bike it went down to about 4k and stayed there i could coast in first doing 25mph at 4500 rpms? and whenever i pull the clutch in the rpms would race. so im thinking my floats are stuck any suggestions?
Probably a stuck choke. Check that the choke plungers on both carbs return freely when turning off the choke. Stuck floats would likely cause flooding and fuel peeing all over the place, not a racing engine.

alright, hmm well since this is going to be the first time ive worked on my bike have any advice and some quick pointers to get this taken care of?
i decided the best thing to do was just to get up and go get my hands dirty and tear some shaZam! apart. so i found out that the "pin" that the choke cable pulls out was not going back in all the way when the choke was shut off, but instead staying out about 1/2 way. not sure what made it do this maybe there was some dirt, or maybe the muggy weather. but after pushing and pulling it in and out a few times it finally started working the way it was supposed to. thanks bosozoku for the advice.
it could be a bent needle or maybe your cables were just dry. I would give a squirt or two with wd40 to your throttle cables. This is not an uncommon problem with any engine that runs side by side carbs

huh? and now that i have that figured out, now when i "shut the choke off" it drops back to the 1200k rpms idle. but after riding awhile, and i stop at a stop light or sign it will idle at 3k again? any ideas on why the pin is not staying in the position its supposed to? could the spring be to weak to hold the pin where its supposed to be?
Check your choke cable, they can stick on. Mine had rusted out halfway along and had stuck on, so I just removed it.
