Title: Drag pipes. (open exhaust )?
Post by: jon49337 on August 01, 2007, 04:26:18 PM
I have a 94 gs 500. Has anybody ever tried to run drag pipes on one of these. I know I will have to jet it pretty heavy. I live in Ky so Im not worried about the noise. How big of a main jet will I need and how many washers?

Here is a video on youtube, http://youtube.com/watch?v=vwakKVeSTCI (http://youtube.com/watch?v=vwakKVeSTCI)

The guy said he hadn't done any performance mods, so he may not have jetted. You could post a comment on his video and ask him.

Heres another vid of the bike in action http://youtube.com/watch?v=mfGo2fC_o18&mode=related&search= (http://youtube.com/watch?v=mfGo2fC_o18&mode=related&search=)

Hope this helps.

right now Im running a stock airbox. I want to change to pods. It has a 40 pilot jet and a 127.5 main jet. How big of a jet do you think I would need to run a open exhaust with the stock airbox and with pods. I am going to do this. just trying to keep from buying 10 sets of jets. I love the sound of that bike on youtube.

If you want to hear it from closer distance I'm inviting you to my place :) I live in NY.
I have bolt-on exhaust so I can remove it anytime and show you how it sounds without a can...  :icon_twisted:
It is damn loud :icon_twisted: :icon_twisted: :icon_twisted:

Ive pulled the muffler off it runs but it wont rev over 5000 and its got some lean popping to it. I think with a little jetting it will run fine. It cant be any louder than some of the harleys Ive heard. Then in my opinon a bad running japan bike of any kind sounds better than any harley anyday. Shows you where my paasion lies.

Ive also got a 1998 suzuki marauder 800 with open exhaust.Once the jets where right it runs awesome It gain about 15hp over stock once everything was done. Alot of bike run open exhaust with no problems. I believe the trick is to run the right type of filters. Im going to run air pods I dont know what brand yet. When I get it all done I will post the results and what I did to it far as jets and filters. But if I dont try I will never know so here goes.

Im running an open header right now. I have it jetted for my Vances and hines system. Im trying to get my can powdercoated. I notice a little bit of hesitating around 5krpm but it seems to be running fine. Sure its running a lil bit leaner but it is definately loud..

I shouldnt say hesitate like its lugging/starving but when you ride it as much as i do. I can feel a difference in the lower rpms. When i get to about 6 then it starts to pull like normal. The powerband for our bikes is about 6 for me anyway. What kind of jets are you running and pipe?

Stock jets. V&H pipe. Thats my problem right there I believe.

Definately, get the right jets, you will run much better. Right now more air is being sucked through from your new exhaust but you are still dumping the same amount of fuel in with stock jets
