Title: GS500F with an SV650 240 swing arm?
Post by: can_rizla+. on August 04, 2007, 02:32:41 PM
OK guys/gals. I found that if i up my ante to a 600 my insurance goes through the roof, so i want to spend a lil moneyon accessorizing my bike. I want to put on a 240 wide tire kit my question is, will it fit if i buy a SV650 swing arm, since there isn;t one for the GS500...Anyways my bike is a 07' so any help would be appreciated.

Do you know how big a 240 is?  Most supersports only have a 180 or 190 and even most cruisers don't have tires that wide

No idea if an SV swingarm would fit.  If it's what you want to do though, good luck

I don't know if you've got grandiose ideas, or if you just don't understand what you're proposing.  If you're asking on this forum, I'm leaning alittle further toward the later.  I think it would be an absolute horrible idea to try and put a 240 tire on a GS, unless it was a complete one of custom job similar to the likes of our friend from Germany.  Your chain will rub the tire if you go any wider than 160.  To fit a 160, you'll need to put some washers on the rear sprocket.  The width of your GS swing arm has very little to do with clearance.  A GS swing arm could probably house a 180.  Your front sprocket is the limiting factor in the equation.

I suggest you invest in a Katana wheel, a good sticky 150/160 tire, and call it a day.

Pretty sure a 160 is a stock size rear on an SV.

240..!!! holy cow     how about i just sell you my truck tire.  the only way i know of to get a decent size tire besides the katana  or gsxr rear wheel for the 160    is to use the bandit 1200 swing....Like everyone else has said unless you are doing something wild and grazy like the eight ball  its not worth.  Nice idea though its just not practical.

The shock mount will need to be relocated on either the s/a or the frame. The SV shock is offset due to the rear exhaust pipe which is typical of v-twins. The s/a will need to be narrowed to fit in the GS frame.

OK so i should save the 240 for another ride...fine thats no biggie...BUT i do want a larger rear tire/ rim on the bike. So where do i go from here? Should i just buy new rims front and rear? The rear being the bigger size? I just hate the small rear wheel on the bike now...Anyways much help is needed in my project...so any new ideas are welcome. BTW i am not trying ot make a supersport racer thing thang. I just wanted something that looked nice and was a head turning in a 500cc division. Anyways thanks a bunch!

You an do a 200 with a bandit 1200 swing arm and 6.25 rear wheel,88 GSXR 750 swing arm with a busa or TL 6.0 rear wheel,or my favorite RF swing arm and 6.00 wheel. Most of this just needs bushings and spacers to work.
