+1 on NOT going...see www.tailofthedragon.com for details.  They are pulling anyone over for anything AND nothing.  BEWARE and ride safe!!

Lots of good roads on the North Carolina side too!  :thumb:

Me too, but this is a special action by the THP.  Again, see the above links for details.  :thumb:

I would be going to jail if a cop stopped me for not carrying proof of shatterproof glasses.............that would push me over the edge............it's f%$king ridiculous.    I read that they stopped a soccer mom in her mini-van and threatened her with arrest for not having her registration, while she had a van full of kids...............THP needs to collectively stick their guns in their mouths and pull the trigger :2guns: :2guns:

I'll be up there on the 25th with the 2 Stroke Club. We ride the Dragon at dawn or dusk, then keep off it, too many squids there and now too many cops as well.

I've read many statements about the presence of LEO's. There seems to be an equal amount of 18 wheelers and campers clogging both lanes.

Why hasn't any group formed to ban such vehicles from the roads, or require an escort (expense deterant) to navigate properly ?

If the vehicle cannot fit in ITS LANE ONLY, it should be banned. Period.

Sue the shaZam! out of the insurance companies and you'll see changes I bet.

The LEO's just might save your life by administering CPR after smacking a truck or tossing it in a ditch because of spilled diesel. I'm not going to knock them until I've experienced it myself.

Hmm. Bed time.

The dragon is a restricted road 18 wheelers are not supposed to be on it. What happens is that truck driving schools forget to teach their students how to use a atlas. in the back of a truckers atlas is a list of restricted routes. U.S.Route 129 is listed as a restricted route. But because these guys dont know how to use their atlas all they see is a short cut. Their are some heavy fines when they get caught on this road and they do get caught. Some of the dragon maybe all of it runs through the national park making the fines even higher. Before I was a EMT and a coal miner I was a long haul trucker.

80mph on a public road with cliffs/ravines and oncoming traffic?

Maybe I'm a pansy, but I'll stick to the track...  :dunno_white:

Trucker's atlas?  Those cost too much!    :icon_mrgreen:

I'm convinced most trucking companies route their trucks with yahoo maps.  It's the only way you can get on a street with the same name, in a town with the same name, but in a different state, 500 miles from your real destination.

I know what you mean. but I didnt say that truckers or trucking companies are smart. I agree that something needs to be done about them (truckers and trucking companies.

I was there in February of 2006 on my V-Strom.
Would have loved to have been on the GS.
Had a two day window when it was warm and there was no snow on the dragon.
Nice road but real technical with lots of tight turns. You would have to make a few passes to get the feel
of it so you can ride it in a meaningful way.
Can't visualize it being a pleasant experience with tons of other bikers never mind
the police.   The bonus is that there are lots of good roads nearby.

Kawasaki Triples, Juggy - you know me as Son Volt! The question is not whether I go - but will you?????? You know you need to get down there somehow.
