Title: Almost no one in Atlanta wears gear!!
Post by: Toad Rider on August 09, 2007, 02:58:14 PM
I know it's not my problem, but I just can't believe how few riders here in Atlanta wear gear.  Okay, it gets hot here, so I can understand not wearing riding pants/jacket.  But most people ride aronud in tee-shirts.  A lot wear shorts!  :cookoo:

Is it like this in your area?

Yup it's the same 200 miles south of you, when the EMT's got to my wreck they were in shock because I actually had gear on

Where are you in South GA?  I've lived in a few places down there....Bainbridge, Marshallville (near Perry), and Macon.

It's 99 freaking degrees and maybe 90% humidity here in the River City. Call me a wuss, but it's too friggin' hot to ride and enjoy it.
BTW, if you don't wear a jacket, and a T-shirt is too little protection (duh!), what's in between :dunno_white:

Well....nothing.  I guess a long sleeve shirt would be a litle better than a t-shirt, but not much.  Better stick with the riding jacket.

This is why I've got two set of riding gear, one set up for summer and one for winter cause I will not ride with out gear.

here in Maine one would assume that a bandanna is all that is required by looking at all the fat old dorks on harleys and various other stupid people on bikes.  i have taken to pointing at my helmet instead of waving when i see them.

All those "bikers" must have escaped the heat here in Cincy and gone up there. I bet that even though they don't wear helmets, they do wear 5 lb boots with 2" thick soles to protect their sensitive feet. I've never been able to figure the mentality that dictates heavy, thick soled boots be worn while going sleeveless w/a leather vest and head protection comprised of the aforementioned bandanna :cookoo: :dunno_white: Ahhhh, it's all about the image

Yeah its like that here. I live in marietta also but im one of the guys you talk about. Why do you care? I know the risks (i've been in a wreck with gear and i know how it saves skin) I wear shorts all the time when i ride but if im going to work or out at night i wear pants. If i wear all my gear, i would have to lanesplit through rush hour traffic to keep from dehyrdrating during the summer

I've never thought about that but you're right. Take my stepdad for example. rides a harley never wears a helmet, always short sleeves, but he wont go anywhere without his big heavy duty boots.  :icon_confused:

you guys ever heard of Knox armor. i use it here in england ( dont get no where as hot as you guys). the stuff is made from mesh and has in built armor. bit like motor cross armor. or a really light football vest. (american football) but its sweet stuff well recomend em. i know a few people went to south of france with them (were its hot) and they said its great.

I'm in the San Jose bay area and it's the same deal. Lots of tshirt and short wearing kids on bikes. And it's not even that warm over here. I shake my head everytime I pass one of em.

Meh, they'll learn when they get into a spill. After the skin grafts and excruciatingly painful recovery, they'll be wearing full gear all the time.
