ok so today on my way to work today my bike was running way too good for a 500, first off it was way more speedy and gusty than usually ( but then again i did just shave lol) and when i started her up this morning with the choke it kinda smells like lots of fumes are in the air. or is that normal with the choke? that it doesn't seem to strugle now when i hit 6 or 7 or even sometimes 8 rpm, is this because its just broken in now? that would be my guess anyways. but other than that i did just change the oil and relube the chain but didn't do anything with the valves or fuel lines or anything. so is this a bad sign or good sign? thanks -cerius
yeah with the choke on you should smell gas. did you have the choke on when hitting 8000 rpm?

no i always turn the choke off before taking off
How many miles do you have on your bike, and what is considered "broken in"? I have 3500mi on mine, and was wondering what was considered broken in.
But yes, I smell more fumes with the choke on too, but I think that is because there is more fuel burning through the motor with the choke on.
The end is near. Not much longer till critical melt down.
no when you have the choke on there is less air getting sucked in. and by the way save up time for a new motor

We have an enrichment circuit, which means more gas, not less air. It's called a choke because that's more commonly used and it behaves the same way for cold starting and junk.
1000 miles is still breaking in, would be my guess.
well whatever it did, its really running better. we will see if it stays this way after work, if it does il have my gf record me.
Pull your carbs and check your jets. I had the same thing happen to me, and one of my jets was sitting in the bottom of the float bowl. bike ran like a champ. Exhaust was way too hot tho. things started melting and overall, it just wasn't a good situation.
