jsut got back from deals gap, and was able to keep up with to zx'x and a gixxer, ive watch videos and i went through everything faster then most people, on battlaxes that are 75% worn down.. i was very please with thre performance but according to ppl on here they are shaZam! compared to the avon's, im a very sprited rider should i upgrade?
You tell us. You said you weren't very happy with them, so try something different. I get more 'spirited' every time I ride, but I am happy with my BT45's.
It's all your personal preference.

It's not that the BT-45's are shaZam!. BT-45's are awesome. Other tires are awesomer. You should definitely try something else and see. Sport Demons in the stock size are the easiest to try.
ooi will try them
I ran Pilot Sports on mine until Michelin discontinued them and went to the softer Pilot Powers and left out 140 or 150 sizes. I went to Pilot Roads, and while there is definitely less traction on city streets, I haven't felt that the knee-dragging ability of the bike has changed much, but I also didn't ride to the point of dragging parts/knee until after the swap.
I'm throwing a set of Rennsports on for a track day coming up, and will need to break 'em in before then. Hoping to get some decent video/photos of the action.

Yeah, it's not the BT-45's that people complain about (well most don't complain about them), we complain about the Bridgestone Excederas that came stock on the 89-02 bikes. BT-45 is a decent tire, I'm glad they started using them as OEM tires for the 04+

My '02 came with BT-45s
89-00?
musta been.
To avoid threadjacking, yes, tires make a difference. My BT-45s were pretty good. Not great, but pretty good. I've only lost traction a few times, and that was usually due to normal things like wet paint lines on the road, oil, etc. I got 14K out of my stock rear. It was safe up until about 12K.. the last 2K scared the crap out of me, but I couldn't get my new tires put on until then. I now have avon roadriders, which seem to be a bit grippier than stock, but should hopefully provide close to the same life (If I get 9-10K, I'll be happy, as I think I paid like $190 delivered and installed). I'm not a particularly fast rider, but I do get a lot of lean on, and was always happy with stock, I had zero chicken strip on the back (Yeah, now I'm working on hanging off), and never felt like the tire was going to give, even near the edge. Hope that helps some.

89-00?
GS had Excedras thru 2003 and changed to BT45 G spec for 2004 GS-F. From Bridgestone tire pages:
130/70-17M/C 17 G550R BW TL - 62H GS500E 1994-2003
130/70-17M/C 17 BT45R BW TL G 62H GS500F 2004-2005
My 02 bought used in Sept 03 with 4.5k miles on it came with an Excedra front and Kenda rear replacement.
I replaced my OEM Excedras on my 97 with a set of BT45 and the rear went about 9.5k miles. Later on when I was pushing it harder a second BT45 was half worn out at about 2k miles. Your milage may vary, mine did. :)
track day?
i live in florida (orlando) i need to find track any suggestions? i cant seem to find one
weird.. my '02 came with two BT-45s on it, and the PO only had 3992.4 miles on it when I bought it from him, I know he didn't replace the tires.

my favorite track....Jennings GP www.jenningsgp.com (http://www.jenningsgp.com)
i have a bt-45 on the rear and i do not like it. but the only reason is that it only has about 20% tread left.
and is still good in almost every way, but when i am decelerating for a turn occasionally the tire looses traction
while down shifting.
when i mentioned this to my brother he thought i was being too ruff on the bike. but that is :bs: .
that is why the next tire i am getting will be a 150/60-17 with some seriously stick rubber.
and we should set up a date where Florida and Georgia gs500 riders hit the track. i do not have leathers
or a belly pan yet. but in a couple of months i will. :icon_twisted:
i like my BT-45's then i got the active-pilots from mich. god them things where super nice ! when i get new tires for my CBR600RR i'll probly get the pilot powers ..
jennings is a bit to far from me thats a good 2 hour drive..i was pretty close on my way back from deals gap to bad i didnt know abouty it then...

2 hours? dude, I know people that trailer there from here in Atlanta and farther north, that's at least 6 hours for us. I'm considering RIDING in, then doing a trackday, since I don't own a car/trailer, and I'm proud, so I don't like asking to hitch rides.
Good luck finding a fun track to ride that's less than two hours away, very few are lucky to have that privilege. I, fortunately (or unfortunately) have the recently repaved Road Atlanta about 45 minutes from me, but finances are keeping me from a trackday for at least the next few months. The money I'd save on gas to/from Jennings about makes up the cost difference between Jennings and RA... plus, I hear jennings rates keep going up.
