Title: the case of the Disappearing Vacuum Caps!!!!!!!!!!!!
Post by: krypto35 on August 13, 2007, 08:31:20 PM
Second time now that I pulled the gas tank because the bike was running oddly to discover that one of the vacuum caps disappeared.  What's going on -----

I have been experiencing that backfire on warmup (more of a hiss than a pop, and from the carbs not exhaust) and I'm guessing that it what is blowing my caps off...... BUT, I only experience that specific backfire once one of the caps is removed....... sort of a chicken and the egg situation and I could use some guidance!  Both stock caps are now missing and have been replaced with standard red vinyl caps from other carb projects.

Supposedly this "backfire" is from the bike being too lean at idle (but with the choke on, is that possible?)  yet I get TERRIBLE popping and crackling from exhaust on deceleration... which many have said to be a sign of being rich at idle (aka closed circuit)...... so which is it!

anyone? anyone?
