Title: 1995 GS500 - Right Carb Vac Line Cap Required?
Post by: beRto on August 19, 2007, 07:44:49 PM
Hello,

I've searched GStwin.com and checked my Clymer manual.  My question relates to the right carb vac inlet (i.e. the same inlet that connects to the fuel petcock from the left carb).  I don't see any cap mentioned for the right hand carb in the Clymer manual.  The forum mentions in a couple of threads that this inlet should be capped on the right carb.

Can anyone verify that this inlet should be capped?  Does anyone have a part number? (not sure what to order since it doesn't appear on the carb diagrem in either Clymer or BikeBandit.com).  A photo would be great.

It is not needed on the right carb. The hole is already blocked from the casting process. It has to be drilled to be opened.

Well that makes sense, but I'm confused because of this thread:  http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=34003.0 (http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=34003.0)?  In the last post, scratch seems to contradict this advice saying that the inlet should be capped (and it relates expressly to the 1995 model there too).

I guess I can insert a piece of wire into the carb inlet to see if it is open or not.

Thanks for the advice and help.

89-96 are listed as the same carb. Not sure why the 95 would require a cap when the others do not and that it is not listed on the parts diagram. It cannot hurt to have one installed.

Start the engine, run it as idle.  Stick finger over the hole.  If it sucks on your finger, you need a cap, otherwise you don't.

Just to finish this thought... I put my thumb over the right carb inlet (while it was running of course!) and there was no suction.  I would conclude that this port does not require a cap.

I did not read the question correctly.  And, have edited my response to reflect that.  Thank you for pointing that out.
