I need advice about how to go about fixing my carbs. The bike sat for two years and the tank is a bit rusted. The needle on the carbs is stuck. I bought a 06 set of carbs for a reasonable price and am going to try to make them work on the 94 bike. Am I going to have to modify my bike to make the 06 carbs work?? How can I get rust out of the fuel tank?? Does anyone have a reasonably priced pair of 94 carbs and/or a fuel tank that will fit the 94 GS500. I want to get it running and I dont have a fortune to acomplish it. Thank you thank you for any and all help!!!

For the rust, do a search on this forum for "POR" or "kreem" or "red kote", all 3 are tank liners that eliminate the problem of rust. For the carbs, you'll need to get a throttle tube/cable setup from an '01 or later bike, as they use a dual push/pull cable system instead of one cable like on the earlier bikes. I think there's also issues with a TPS or something similar, but I'm not sure, as that was '04+, and mine's an '02.. some of the gurus will chime in.
Check Ebay for a cheap set of carbs or maybe the forsale section here.
You should be able to fix your carbs fairly cheap. Mine sat for 10 years and I got em cleaned :thumb:
As far as the tank... once again mine sat for 10 years FULL of gas :o it was NASTY! Anyway... Dont use KREM.. its KRAP :thumb: I used it and so far its OK but has came off in big sheets at times and caused some problems.
Anyway...
