Title: Engine breaking up after rejet
Post by: stockstang on August 25, 2007, 11:36:39 AM
Ok so I just finished my rejet and synched the carbs and now right around 7 to 9 it breaks up under full throttle. sometimes not as bad but none the less it still breaks up. Pulls great up to that and even clears up after that RPM range. I am running a lunchbox with a full D&D kit with the can shortened to 12". On the carb I went with 150 mains and two washers under the jet needle. So my question is what should I do to fix this.

take a shim off the needle, that'll lean up your mid range.

Ok I will try that.

On my GS, I actually ended up running no shims with a 150 main, but various things can affect your specific set-up.   Carbs are one of those things you just need to be ready to play with for a long time.

Float level ... GS usually wears high and gets rich. 7-9K is rather vague, what throttle position ... jetting is controlled by throttle position, not rpm. Your 7-9K at idle is under 1/4 throttle, in 6th gear its like full throttle + ...
Cool.

Checked my float level and they are right above the top of the bowl. Think i should back them down?

Yeah i know each component of the carb relates back to the throttle position. My problem is under full throttle which I thought dealt with the main jet. Seems that the lower the gear the worse the break up is. Almost like its hitting a rev limiter at that range.  Its popping out of the exhaust.
