just got the new yoshimura trs slip-on the other day and installed it on my '06 gs500...and :o WOW :o wut a difference....bye bye sewing machine
the thing i really like about this pipe is the easily removable low volume insert so if you want a nice sound but don't enjoy lots and lots of volume you just keep the insert in, either way with it in or out it sounds real nice. i currently have the low volume insert out and is it ever loud its actually much louder than my dad's honda shadow 1100. i contacted yoshimura and they said with the insert out it gets as loud as 101-103 dB which means nothing to me, i just know its real loud, but maybe someone will know
in terms of power not too much of an increase maybe a bit this pipe is more for its sound and looks than performance. the install was really simple and not very time consuming
it was a little pricey but i think it was totally worth it the list price is $379.00 USD but i got mine for $319 USD from a company called star cycle (http://www.starcycle.com/) in California, it was the only place i could actually find it, and i live in Canada so i got it shipped and the costs were reasonable it was $50 airmailed and it took exactly one week including the weekend so 5 business days
i will try and get pics up as soon as possible....once i take them and figure out how to post them, im sure there's an FAQ on that somewhere. and maybe a sound clip or vid if someone could tell me how to do that
***just a little warning when in the higher rpm's (especially with low volume insert out) there is much more vibration but thats from about 7k to redline at 11k
but all in all and excellent mod for the gs
Congrats- did you rejet the carb?
I would love to put on a new exhaust but I don't feel like messying with the carbs
nope no rejetting required for this...i didnt think it had to but i took it into a shop just to be sure and he said it didnt have to be rejetted.....so you dont have to mess with the carbs for this
ooooo i fogot one little piece of info about this "slip-on" in a sense you eventually slip it on but its not the normal slip-on exhaust where you only need some wrenches and/or sockets to take off the stock can and slip on the new one...incase u havent noticed the gs exhaust is a single welded unit so there is some pipe cutting involved but not to worry it is very simple i am just warning you because once you put this on its kinda hard to reverse unless ur a pro welder lol....but i couldnt see y you'd want to reverse this but just a forewarning about permanent changes. once you cut then u slip it on
I think you should rejet your bike. You said something about vibrations between 7-11K RPMs?? I think it may be caused by leaned carbs!!
And you really DON'T want leaned carbs :icon_twisted: I'm sure you know that though...
I can't wait to see the pictures!! And I can't wait even more to hear that ROAR :):)
PS. I just bought Leo Vince SBK and I hope I'll be as suprised as you are in the terms of sound improvement! (I don't have the pipe yet-should arrive this week tho)
Cheers

How could a slip-on exhaust can lead to an increase in vibration? Are you sure it's bolted up securely?
Also, I would be vary of a mechanic that said you don't need to re-jet. The stock bike is already very, very lean. If this exhaust flows better than stock (which it damn well better) then a re-jet is 100% necessary.
I'm looking forward to the pics / vids too, Yoshi pipes usually sound great.
hmmmmm yah i dont exactly want lean carbs lol, but ya everything is bolted up properly, but the vibrations aren't like out of control so.....i'm not sure...im goin to get it looked at again by another mechanic and i'm sure that he'll have a solution which will be more than likely to rejet lol.....and congrats on the Leo Vince SBK thats definitely a very nice pipe.
and i'll try and get the vids and pics up ASAP
yup... rejet is never a bad option :) (cooler engine, easier startup, more power, less vibrations) unless you screw up rejetting completly, which is not easy to do ;)
and remember don't use DJ kit... I have it and I regret it... (wasted 75 bucks)
Cheers
