I'm getting a whining sound coming from the front end. I'm pretty sure it's from the mechanical tach/speedo cable. I checked and they are tight but just wondering if anyone else notices a whine from the cables.
I thinking of just disconnecting them since most of my riding is around town and I change gears with feel and by the sound of the revs.
So stop whining !
Try lubing the cables with either chain lube or some sort of Teflon-based lube before you give up hope and throw them out.
Is it a whine or a hum?
I just solved a problem I was having with my bike.
It would start humming around 40mph and get a bit louder as speed increased.
Turns out it was the front brake not releasing completely. It wasn't enough to hold the bike back. Just enough for it to start humming.
I took the front brake off the bike and cleaned it real well with brake cleaner.
No hum now.

So your pads were rubbing or the caliper was not releasing?
Mine is actually a whine and it get's louder up to about 4o mph and it stays kinda the same. I'm pretty sure it's either the tach or speedometer cable.
So if I was to disengage these cables do I need in anyway to plug the hole on the engibe it coming out of?

just disconnect one at a time, at the gauge, and ride the bike.. if it goes away, theres your problem.
Hi, Seamax.
The calipers were a bit dirty, causing the pads to rub more than they should.
Just enough to set up a vibration causing the hum. I really couldn't tell that the brakes were slowing me down though.
I took everything apart and cleaned it. That took care of the hum.

Have you dumped it lately? it may be your disfigured fender rubbing the tire.

The only whining sound I hear consistently is my 2 1/2 year old daughter..."Daaaaaaddy, daaaaaaaddy, daaaaaaaddy..." :icon_rolleyes:
