Title: 2007 ZX6R VS 2006 GSXR 600
Post by: porsche4786 on August 30, 2007, 09:47:46 AM
Which is better overall? Which would you prefer? Did kawi desize the engine? It's a 599cc?? I thought it was 636?

They used to have the ZX6R and a ZX6RR for a couple years.  The R was the 636 and the RR was still a 600.  Now, they have done away with the 636 motor and there is only an R model.  The gixxer is better, but I like the looks of the ZX6 better.  My $.02.

Do you know why they did away with it? I would assume people would rather the slightly bigger engine.

Oh, I think it is because the boy racers wanted to ride the same super sports as their heros or something.  It probably hurt their sales somehow.

AMA did away with allowing the slightly larger 636 in competition, last year CMRA and CCS followed suit. There was no longer a race series where the bike would be marketable so for the minor HP and tourque gains realized by 36 extra cc's it was not worth continuing a seperate motor line to sell on the street.

Don't get a bike based on looks and performance alone.  Sit on each one if they will let you take them out for a ride.  And then get the one that is the most comfortable for you.

I wasn't going to buy a ZX6R, my friend bought one though. I got to ride it today, things I noticed were, seat height is taller, front brake is very sensitive, throttle isn't very responsive at all. suspension is pretty darn stiff. the gages can be hard to read with the stock wind screen, you have to look thru it a little. rear suspension is adjusted with air, not fluid, so you have to have air available to adjust it...unlike the GSXR you just need a small screw driver. the foot pegs aren't as far back like on the GSXR, the ZX6R felt more comfortable if you were going to ride much of  a distance, also, the ZX6R sounded pretty cool.

I sat on both, and the GSXR just felt really small and the body position is pretty extreme. I guess that's an advantage on a racetrack, but for everyday use I'd go with the ZX: bigger bike, seems more comfortable too

The ZX6R was also annoying because you had to look thru the windscreen to see part of the gages. But hey, it has a timer on it!

The suspension on the ZX6R is not air adjustable :icon_rolleyes: That is a nitrogen charging port.

It uses an oil filled nitrogen charged rear shock. Kinda like all modern supersports and superbikes.

It is a 3 way adjustable suspension using a collar type preload adjustment with rebound damping and compression adjustment screws.
