Does anyone know of a gear indicator that would work on the GS? If so, could you point me in the right direction. thanks

all those devices seem to be made for electric gauges..know of anything that will work with mechanical gauges?
Thanks for the thread Max, unfortunately in my initial search, I read it and had trouble understanding it. Blue, the inicators that you listed don't list the GS as compatible. Is their a way to alter it so it works? Thanks for the help so far guys.
In short, there is no indicator that works with the GS - because the GS never had a gear position sensor/switch.
John Bates' thread, mentioned above, uses a GSX-R gear position indicator that is mechanically compatible with the GS. He has added wiring and electronics for the functionality.
This is yet another feature Suzuki chose to leave off the GS with no plans to upgrade or add at any time. Now that the bell is tollng for our beloved simple bike. It will never happen unless someone mods it.

Its a practically useless feature, which is why 97% of motorcycles do not have one. Looking at a gauge to see that you are in 3rd gear @ 50 mph is not the proper way to decide whether or not to shift. Feeling the available torque from the engine and/or listening to the engine (or glancing at the tachometer) is the proper way to decide when to shift.
The money for the components would be much better spent on dual front brakes (badly needed) or a low fuel light (so that one doesn't have to take their hands off the bars, and crane my body to switch to reserve while riding).
Hell, I would even setting for a headlight that didn't suck monkey balls, or decent mounting points for frame sliders before I would accept a gear indicator.

A GR one will. I happen to have 2-3 I wont use ... :icon_mrgreen: ... werase wants one, so the other 1-2 are open. You might as wll get it before the thing rusts off from me spitting on it. :icon_mrgreen:

listen to your bike while watching the speedo and tac. you will learn quickly to tell tell what gear you are in and you will not need anything more than that. i have been doing that for years on many different bikes and it works for me
Seriously, what's the point? What difference does it make what gear you're in? If your revs are high, shift up to the next gear. If they're low and you're lugging, shift down. Simple.
