OK, so I 'might' have an opportunity to do some extracurricular 'training' on non-american soil. :icon_rolleyes:
The good:  could help with a very interesting career path
The bad:  I wouldn't be able to start back to school until 2009

Hmmm, you are active right? Which is more important, kick ass army training, or your future? Unless of course, the Army is your career.

I just made a decision if this helps. I have 7 years in the army. I am a SSG and chief of a howitzer section as well as up for my 7's this comming year and I am dropping it all in October because I got married and am now expecting a baby in Feb. '08. Anyway, I think I just got too comfortable being where I am and I didn't want to get out, but my wife told me I should move on, so I am. If you put off school now, it only gets harder to go back. By the way, I am NG now, so it's not the same position as you exactly, but close enough. I went to a few schools, and a deployment, and my wife didn't want me to go to any more. She wants a husband, not a flag. Anyway, now that I've bored you, it's up to you man.

No, I'm not active.  Actually, I'm out right now.  I was NG, with my only active time for training and deployment.  Obviously given that stipulation, none of it is protected information, but currently the exact nature of the training is not one I'm willing to divulge.  Extrapolate from that what you will.
The Army is not my career choice, and this training is in no way associated with the American Gvt.  The Army was a crazy ride, certainly learned some interesting shaZam! and developed more as a person than I believe I would have had I not enlisted.
I think, much like yourself, my time with the Army has come to it's end.  It's just not conducive to my current life plans.

This is quite interesting because ive just enlisted in RAF signed 12 years of my life away to become an officer and fast jet pilot  :thumb: Looking forward to it!

30 weeks of IOT now then specialist training!

Hehe well you dont need a degree just A -levels but then you have 30weeks IOT  (initial officer training) so doing CS gas drills leadership drills etc.. loads of physical stuff n then classroom instruction and then you do specialist training. You only need A levels but then you have to pass aptitude tests so i suppose  they're testing to see if you have the ability to fly an aircraft well and what sort of aircraft rather than can you sit through a degree. Once you get to go to selection then thats where the real tests start. Only professions like dentistry and being a doctor and stuff require a degree and some engineering courses although i may gain a degree during my service.

Dude, ghey.   We get screwed over here.   To fly a jet: 1. you must complete a baccalaureate degree      2.  You must pass the Officer Qualification Test      3.You must pass the AFAST  Then you still have to go through all the training

But, fortunately, although a degree helps with my career path, it is not necessary.

Best of luck Kasumi. That has to be one of the most epic all-time unforgettable careers of all time.

Whether or not I complete school is not the question.  That will occur, and soon.  The question is should I push it back a little for this once in a lifetime opportunity.

Yes, if you are serious about it being once in a lifetime.  School is always there next semester/year.

That's my impression of Terry now .. "extracurricular 'training' on non-american soil" is a scary proposition for the civilians of Texas .. but I'd say go for it  :thumb:

Just remember that we're on your good side

I'm getting my references together for selection ( Actually it's really only 1 reference that's going to get me in )
Yup, I gotta friend in a high place :icon_mrgreen:  It's a quite unique opportunity as it generally is only available on a very limited basis to gvt. employees and not at all to civilians, but a number of 'contractors' are being admitted, and my reference works laterally to the selection officer.
