I am looking to get an sv650 shock in the next few days, and I have read the Wiki and it is a little vague about the cut and drill of the sv 650 shock, so I have a few questions (if anyone has the answers thanks);
1) Does anyone have measurements where I need to cut?
2) what size is the drill hole?
On the wiki hmmmnz's states "need the sv650 shock (you have to use the yellow type not the later model white coloured shock)
"
3)what is/are the reasons? (aside color of shock) they basically look the same... any clues.?
thanks

1) Don't have the measurements, but you will see exactly where you need to bolt it up once you disconnect both ends of the black lower linkage piece.
2) 10mm
3) They changed the length, and the 03+ (white spring) is even longer, and cutting it will still not make it clear the GS linkage.

Thanks for a vague offer but I already got the sv650 shock. and I don't thing the Gsrx 1100 shock will be all that great considering the bike is a lot heavier than the gs500. cheers and good luck on your sale.
Just having some fun with you.

Wow, look what happens when I get a little bit of time on my hands. Sorry. I'm finished now.
Ok, ok, since I waisted some of your time I'll try to help. Here is some info from Pantablo that may be of help.

I have some as well that may help.
The GS500 shock measures approx. 11 1/2" from center of top to center of bottom hole. I don't know what your SV measures.
From the top of the clevis to center hole is approx. 1 1/8".
If you want a similar ride height, this is ideal.
The shock that I so shamelessly promoted is a GSXR 1100 and this is what I did and how it measures.
Center top to bottom is approx. 12"
top of clevis to center hole is 3/4"
The extra half inch in total length raises the tail about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch.
The clevis was longer and the hole was too long to fit my bike. I filled the hole with weld, ground it smooth, and drilled a new hole more similar to the GS's shock.
I then cut the clevis shorter. This gave me the clearence I needed.
I also used the 1100's rocker, it's a block of aluminum. The GS's little black lump sucks.
I hope you could get some usefull info from this.
