Post by: The Antibody on September 04, 2007, 07:50:07 PM
Only 3 made the final cut. ENJOY! I'm up for a GSTWIN calendar.
Perhaps members can submit a few pics and we can build a calendar.

Wow, the orange and white paint scheme really looks good.  Great job.

Here are a couple of pics of my bike, not as extreme as yours.

Wrex - get button head allens for that fork brace. The regular allens look a little pedestrian. Or Flare head, but you will then need to counter sink them.
Cool.

thx and likewise.  don't wash it much, but use dry cleaners.  most of the time, the tank is covered by a black bagster cover.  there are some sweet machines here that need posting too!

brace is a one off machined piece I asked my brother in law to do for me.  pillion pegs are from 07 gsxr750, need to add some material on the end.

hey now - mine's got over 20,000 miles and is ridden everyday...  ;)  I try to keep as much water off the bike as possible and do so sparingly only when needed.  in between, and before pics, I use Motorex Clean & Polish and Protect & Shine 645 (any equivalent would work).  The rest is good camera and good lighting...

damn straight about camera work. It helps to get good lighting and such. I had a local painter do it. My bro and I photoshopped the paint scheme and gave them the disk. It looks about 95% like the picture. He did a great job.

I stay away from the rain if I can. Thats what hurts the bike the worst. But it's impossible to avoid it all together. I've been caught in messes a few times. Even a snow storm once.

The key is to wipe it down or gets rusty and scummy.

Great bikes, guys! But I couldn't help noticing one detail spoiling otherwise awesome looks. I am talking about the exhaust downpipes (on the naked Anti's and Max_boost's GS), the vertical part, right by the engine. They are sticking out like a sore thumb. I know that's a part which is almost impossible to restore/repaint without a long and messy procedure of taking exhaust off, cleaning, sandblasting, etc, etc.

I would recommend using grate polish (a.k.a. zebo) to care about that problem. Grate polish is a high temperature resistant paste you polish your pipes with. It's basically like polishing the shoes. You will be pleased with the results. Takes 10 minutes, you may repeat it as needed, maybe every 2-3 months.

More at the wiki page http://cgi.stanford.edu/~sanjayd/gs500/Restoration/PaintExhaustAlternative (http://cgi.stanford.edu/~sanjayd/gs500/Restoration/PaintExhaustAlternative)

Mine is naked and stock, and that's the trick I use to make them pipes look neat.
My 2c.

My downpipes , or headers are shiny! , theres a lil discolour they get , but not a spot of rust!

^^^^ I wonder if zebo will help them be even more shiny and remove discoloration... Are they chrome?

Did you think about painting the chin plastic and the headlamp part blue to match the rest of the bike? Both look a bit 'bolted on' to me. (No offence, man)  O0
Even with the black seat and grab handle the look is a bit off (IMHO). Hard to tell but the headlamp part looks shinier than the other black parts (which may further add to the visual disbalance)..

Mine is an '02. I am currently in the process of finding stainless steel headers or titanium. If I can't find them, I'll have to have them made.
